Hi. Engine Comm Error is an internal communication error, please check the connections inside the printer that you may have accidentally loosen when you were cleaning the printer. Tighten the cable connectors. Let me know if you need further assistance.

You will need to unplug everything from your computer and wall and then uninstall the printer software. After you uninstall the software, click on the link below and download this free registry cleaner program. http://download.cnet.com/Abexo-Free-Registry-Cleaner/3000-2094_4-10434887.html Run the program and it will scan your harddrive for any registry errors. After you complete that and restart your computer, re-download and install your printers software and reattach your computers USB cables and power cables. The communication error should go away. If it does not go away then replace your USB cable with a new one. http://h200003.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=pl&cc=pl&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=1140727&prodTypeId=18972&objectID=c00660347#A5

Hi,
The device experienced an internal communication error. This is a warning message only. Job output might be affected. If the error persists, turn off the device and then turn on the device.
If you still get the error, perform an engine test.
To know how to perform an engine test, visit this link and on page 59, you will get Engine Test.
If you still get the error, I am sorry to inform you that you have some problem with either DC or formatter board which can only be repaired at a service center.
Thanks for using Fixya.
Good Luck and have a nice day.

Unable to print 48

The encoder strip may be dirty and needs to be cleaned with a lint free cloth. The encoder strip is responsible for relaying the position of the print head to the main pcb. If the encoder strip gets dirty, many different problems can occur. The encoder strip is exposed, which allows grease, paper dust, finger prints, ink, etc. to get onto it. (it's the white strip when you open the scanner cover)
If the machine still errors, the encoder strip needs to be replaced or there may be a problem with the main pcb

Straight thin line prints on copies from feeder

Hi,
When the paper is fed through Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) it is scanned before copy or fax. The scanner is fixed type and is located just below the ADF.
The lines are due to dirty scanner mirror. The printer/ scanner design is based Sheet-Fed Scanner. Open/Lift the Control Panel (scanner top )(by pulling it up from front - the area from where the paper to scan comes out). Look out for the horizontal mirror and use a soft, damp, lint-free cloth to gently clean the scanner mirror, rollers etc. and enjoy clear scanning and copying! For example see the below picture: -
creativetech_52.jpg
Inspect for any tron pieces of paper dirt etc.DONT USE PAPER, CHEMICALS OR ANY ABRASIVE CLOTH as it may damage the parts.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

Whatever I print looks "dirty",

If the cartridges are not HP brand, that may be the problem.

Try to figure out exactly what color the "grey" background color is.
If it is truly grey, the black cartridge might be the problem.

You can also try a different type of paper.
Some paper may respond to the printing process differently than others.

If you find that the background is a red, the scanner will have to be removed and cleaned.
These models have a tendency to collect red (magenta) toner on the scanner assembly lenses.

I cannot Fax multple pages otherwise the machine jams. I need to feed 1 page at a time which is not ideal. Is there a way to overcome this?

Paper jam usually happens due to dirty or in some cases worn out paper pick up roller. I think, cleaning the pickup roller would fix the issue. Remove the paper input tray. Open the top cover (ADF) by pulling it from the back (where the paper goes) towards the front to open the scanner as indicated below
creativetech_32.jpg

Inspect for any tron peices of paper dirt etc. Locate the rollers and clean them with a soft, damp, lint-free cloth. Also, you may clean the Sheet-fed scanner (Mirror and white platten) for better copy/ scan results with a dry cloth. DONT USE PAPER, CHEMICALS OR ANY ABRASIVE CLOTH as it may damage the parts.

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.
Hope it helps! Good Luck!

Will not print the color red.

This si probably a laser scanner fault. There's a common fault with the laser scanner getting dirty, especially the magenta part of the scanner. the laser scanner would need to be removed, stripped and thoroughly cleaned, especially the mirros and lenses.

PAPER JAM WITH NO PAPER

This may be caused by a dirty sensor. Disconnect power supply, open the printer and clean everything. You may use toilet paper. Be careful not to leave fragments of toilet paper inside the printer.
