Hardware I/O error

I get a Hardware I/O error, everytime I try to scan. I can print, photocopy, but I cannot scan.

    Scanner comes up with I/O Hardware Error after scanning 32% of my document. I have uninstalled and reinstalled software, checked and replace cables with still no success. I have a USB cable that allows my Samsung SCX -4521F to be shared with my laptop computer and I have no problem scanning to my other computer. My desktop is relatively new and is windows XP not Vista.

    Same problem. Copying and printing are fine, but when I try to scan I get an alert box saying 'Hardware I/O problem'. Am going to re-install the (incredibly flaky) SmartThru software and retry...

I had a similar problem. Turns out it was acting up, if there was a memory stick attached to it. (It was connected using parralel port)

I had the same problem and found no solution on the net, so I sent Samsung an email. Turns out I did not have the right driver (the original model on the printer says SCX-4521F, but there was a sticker in the box where the model shows SCX-4521FG. The Samsung help desk told me to install the scanner driver for the FG model and sent me print screen of the Printer Settings Utility. You have to set the output type to Grayscale (8bit mono) and the resolution to 150dpi.

Anyway, it works now. I had tried just about everything, I was about to put the printer back in its box...

Why doesn't photocopying work properly?

Try using the regular paper settings. Most likely the "id card copy settings" is using a part of the screen that's only 25% covered by your card.

The printer works fine from Windows including Scanner.When using photocopy from printer panel does not work.

If you are not getting any error messages, I suspect you definitely have a printer hardware problem, especially if it prints fine from Windows. Best to contact Canon's technical support with this one

My espon ME320 does not print but can photocopy and scan.

Get another driver for the printer from Epson web site. If that do not work call the Epson technical support or leave them an E-Mail.

When hp photosmart does not photocopy what is that thing that can cause it not to copy

In most cases the printer driver software can have errors while being in use or is shut down. So to reset remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and then connect the Printer ONLY WHEN PROMPTED, to be detected as a new hardware as it will be installed. Now take a test print and CALIBRATE the scanner with the test print.
Now the printer must be set to copy if not there are errors on the scanner section.

When I scan photos there is a vertical line on the resulting picture and I don't know how to remove it or stop it happening

Try a basic photocopy, it the page printed displays these lines also then it is a error with the scanning light and this would need to be replaced.

This is a HP hardware/software error and HP has not fixed it.

The C4250 may report that "USB is not connected" but the printer works just fine and when you use the Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard to carry out a scan, it works just fine too. So the error message is wrong.

The Microsost Scanner and Camera Wizard can be found on the Control Panel.

Cannot scan to pc

my MP 160 cannot scan to pc, but can print and photocopy well. it says it cannot communicate with scanner..cable might be disconnected or scanner might be off..tried uninstalling and reinstalling..still doesn't work
