It could be several other things thermal fuse, thermal cut out, hi limit thermostat, dryer coils, heat sensor. All of these parts are inexpensive and easy to test and replace. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru the troubleshooting of these components. It may be a different model but the troubleshooting will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations. All parts come with installation instructions. Not all models are available. If you need help disassembling your machine there are videos of this also for most styles.

Dryer only works on 1 setting and is not heating

If your dryer is not heating assuming is a gas dryer. It could be due to The electrical fuse igniter is not working or no gas is going in. Need to remove the front bottom cover and check that the fuse is igniting when you turn on the dryer. You should hear a clicking noise just before the igniter turns red ( glowing) to receive the gas and create the flame to then produce the heat. If you are not able to see the fuse/igniter conduct this process, you might need to replace it.

Dryer will not produce heat during drying cycle. The dryer will not dry clothes as a result of no heat. The air is cold when the dryer is running.

If this is a gas dryer, the problem is probably the ignition panel. Generally, with a gas dryer, there is an ignition device that heats to a specific temperature and this causes the gas to ignite. When this electric ignition fails to work, the gas will not ignite and there will be no heat. I had this happen and had to call a professional. It was a simple matter of installing a new ignition device and it worked perfectly for years. I hope this helps! If it is a new dryer, check to see if this part might be covered under warranty. If this solves your problem, please come back to Fixya and rate my advice.

The dryer does not dry. No heat. I took off the bottom plate and turned on the dry. An electrical element turned a bright orange for a few seconds and then darkened. No gas went on.

Dryer won't heat up

When is the last time you cleaned out the dryer venting? May be a blockage that is causing the no heat problem. Check directly behind the dryer and also outside at the vent cap. If it's a gas dryer, it will not have a heating coil. The gas burner lights with an igniter. Does the igniter glow orange when dryer is first turned on? If not, it may be broken. Look for broken ceramic piece below where it attaches and replace. Do not touch the ceramic piece on the new igniter, as it is very fragile.
