Question about Whirlpool Cooktops
Re: a 19 year old Whirlpool electric countertop stove, model # RC8430XT-2; 240 V; 60 Hz; 7.0 kW; with 4 ''disc''-style electric pads controlled by rotary infinite switches:
For innumerable years, I have heard the stove make infrequent snapping sounds that I attributed to thermal expansion due to heating. Today, after replacing an infinite switch to solve an indicator-light-still-on-with-burner-turned-off problem, I turned the electricity and burners on to perform a functional check. From below, I observed low frequency intermittant sparking in the infinite switches -- both old and brand new. Is this normal? Can this be safely ignored, given previous experience and the fact that the sparks are contained within a grounded metal enclosure?
