Question about Kenmore 15343

1 Answer

Needle will not move..motor runs fine when pedal pushed down, but needle will not go up and down. Not in ''bobbin mode'' and knob is pushed in. (Sorry, still a beginner with all this, so I don't know all the lingo yet). Called various ''experts'' and no ideas on the problem yet. Any help would be appreciated....can't afford a bunch of money to get it repaired.

Check that the belt is tight, make sure you do not have any thread stuck in the machine, take the bobbin case out and the raceway completely to check

Needle is not moving

Of course I have to guess here--not seeing the machine, but it appears that your motor is working fine. That would leave two possibilities, I think. The first is a defective foot pedal. The second is, when you push the bobbin winder, it engages a clutch that diverts power from the needle shaft to the winder. It is possible that the clutch is stuck. To find out, disengage the bobbin winder and press the foot pedal, and see if the bobbin winder spindle is still spinning.

LED that illuminates the stitch selection bar quit working as did the up/down needle button.

Check your bobbin spindle. If engaged (pushed toward the right) LED will not light. When the clutch knob is pulled out, when you wind a bobbin, the up & down needle will not move. So you must push the clutch knob in again to let the up & down needle go up and down. The clutch knob on my machine is in the large hand wheel upper right side of my machine.

Power on machine runs but needle does not move up and down on Singer 9802C

Is the clutch disengaged ie is it in bobbin winding mode?

You might have a knob inside the flywheel that needs to be tightened up to renagage the clutch, most mechanical machines operate the bobbin winder mechanisim this way.

Just hold the outside of the flywheel and turn the inside knob away from you to lock it again.

Or there may be a little spool that the bobbin sits on and moves over against a stopper to engage the bobbin winding motor, just check that it is back to the left away from the stopper as this may also stop the needle bar from moving up and down.

Hope this assists, however, this is just the simpliest reason, if you have tried these things already and no joy, then perhaps it has a deeper fault. If so, check the manual for other trouble shooting suggestions, and/or take it to the dealer for a service.

On my Kenmore sewing machine Model 1756 when I press the pedal the needle does not move. When I turn the hand wheel the needle does not move. any help out there? or is the machine done for

Disengage the sewing mechanism (like you are winding a bobbin)
If the motor runs fine that way then you have a machine that is frozen.
If that is the case take off the top, bottom, needle plate, needle bar and bobbin cover. Spray all moving parts down with Mean Green and let it sit for about an hour. After that blow it out with canned air.
See if there is any improvement. If so you just need to clean out all the old lubricants. Sometimes I take a hair dryer to loosen the sludge up.

Check to see if you bobbin winder was left on by mistake. Just push it to the left and your needle should start moving. Thanks for asking FixYa!
