I am unable remove the flywheel from a craftsman eager-1 mower
I'm in the process of removing the oil breather from a Craftsman mower and need to remove the flywheel to access it. I followed the following directions from this site but still can't get the flywheel to budge. Do you have any other suggestions?

Use a large pry bar...your fingers won't do it, neither will a screwdriver (need leverage)...you can use the same nut that holds the flywheel on, just screw it down til the nut is flush with the shaft. You want to be hitting the "shaft' in the center, using the nut to prevent the hammer from damaging the thread. So you want to be hitting the nut & shaft as one surface. Take notice that there is a "key" holding the flywheel in position on the shaft, don't loose it !!

engine numbers would be helpful buttttt.... the perimeter of the recoil assy should be 3-5 small screws. remove them and it should come off, the is as long as you have a eagerbeaver engine ( tecumseh ohv )
With the flywheel key broken you need to remove the engine cover first. This may involve removing the fuel tank as well. There should be a nut on top of the flywheel that needs to be removed. After this is off the keyway is exposed. Replace it and replace the parts in reverse order.
the only cheap things make sure the blade is tight if thats ok check the nut on top of the flywheel if thats tight the problem is deep inside and parts to repair would be more the the value look on craigs list for a replacement
On many Tecumseh engines, there is a crankcase breather located under the flywheel. It has a cork gasket to seal the top plate of the breather. Either the rubber breather housing is cracked, or the cork gasket needs replaced.
The timing may be off due to a bent or broken flywheel key. See if you can remove the flywheel and look at the keyway. To remove the flywheel: take a nut with the same size threads as the one that holds the flywheel on. Thread it on but not so far as to let the shaft come through. Hi, The first thing I always check for is fresh fuel (less than a couple of months old) old unleaded may well be fine in your car but low compression engines fitted to garden equipment need fresh fuel. next thing to check is that the choke flap is closing fully, dont rely on the position of the control lever, remove the airfilter cover and see that the flap is fully closed, if it's cracked open just a little bit it will stop engine starting ( unless the filter is really dirty) another thing to check is that the blade is tightly secured, on direct drive mowers the blade acts as a flywheel. did you hit an obstruction the last time you used it, if you did you may have sheared the flywheel key(poor spark on points ignition or good spark but timing out of sync on electronic ignition. hope this helps, regards Tony (England UK)
