Question about ATI RADEON X1650 Graphic Card

2 boards DOA ???

I recently puchased an ATI RADEON X1650 PRO AGP board from a reputable on-line dealer as a replacement for my older but working video card. However it seemed to be DOA and did not POST or even wake up the display. Replaced the board on RMA and got the same problem. The boards are described as re-certified and do not come with any kind of manual. I wonder if I'm missing a power connection or something.

Both system and card are 8X AGP.

  • britinaz Apr 07, 2008

I'm not looking to repair the board. I find it strange that 2 boards from the same vendor have the same fault. Since I don't have an installation manual I'm wondering if I'm missing something. The boards are well fitted into the AGP slot.

One card burnt, maybe! Two successive cards, not probable. In the unresolved problem "burnt out 3 diodes ..." I saw a reference to a molex connector. My question is then : Does this card need an auxiliary power other than the AGP8X. I need to hear from someone who knows this board.

  • britinaz Apr 07, 2008

My older card was/is AGP8X. My motherboard is 4X/8X capable. I know about 3.3v/1.5v changes. See my replies to coolguy008. I don't get any display so I don't see the BIOS.
I need to know if this board requires an additional power cable like later boards do.

Motherboard is a Abit Fatal1ty AA8XE. I have the motherboard manual. I dont have the video board manual, and I can't find one one ATI's website.

HI,

Check if your AGP has 8x or 16x of speed. Then see the system requirements of the Ati card on the box and see that both the speeds match..

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate the solution.

Alright to make it simpler for you i found that the ATI card supports AGP8X.

Now just go to sys. information and check whats your AGP slot speed if it is 16x then change the card and go for the one which has 16X of spedd..

  • Priya darshan Apr 07, 2008

Well the graphic card have usually Plug and Play system.Once you insert the card in the slot it should work. But it can also be possible that your card might have burnt.I don't thing there is anything missing .the fault is with the board then i suggest you to return it to th vendor and get another one from a different vendor.

Now its upto you to decide what to do..

    Goodluck once again,

And please don't forget to accept the solution as fixya.

I think it is difficult and no cost effective to be repaired.
Make sure you have well fitted it in slot.

Was your older but working video card AGP?

If not did you check any setting at BIOS setup to be adjusted or you can't get in setup at all?

    AGP slot capability.
If your AGP slot supports 2X cards, there are lots of 4X/8X cards that will damage themselves and the mboard circuits if you install them in a slot that has 2X capabilty, as in, 3.3 volt support.
Your card is definately 4X/8X, or 8X only, which means it is only for AGP slots that support 1.5v cards only. Some such cards can be used in AGP slots that also support 2X cards, but many cannot.

Your motherboard manual is needed to find specifications and details.

I think the two ATI RADEON X1650 PRO AGP boards are ok but not compatible with your motherboard.

try ebay,or craigslist. you will need a credit card. or just google it and see if there is someone willing to ship to where you are. better yet..just upgrade motherboard that takes PCI express cards instead...agp is outdated but still being used by a small percentage of users with old computers

You could try this link, but with all Beta software nothing is guaranteed until the approved verisons are released.

Not put down your video card though x1650 is not a "screamer" in todays standards, I'm running a 3870OC myself because it was cheaper than to buy the latest and greatest. I believe you are limited by your motherboard only having AGP? Take a look at this link:

You would be able to retain the already installed drivers. It all depends on your budget. On another note try lowering your colors and changing the monitors frequency. I hope this helps.

Can i run ati radeon x1650 512 on asus k8N motherboard

Yes you can run the AGP version of the Radeon 1650 pro on your system. It is always best & recommended to upgrade memory in pairs. You could upgrade to `gb by purchasing a 1 gb kit which would be 512 x 2. That way you have a matching pair of RAM modules. As for a cpu upgrade you can go to the Asus website and see what cpu's are supported by your motherboard. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

ATI x1650 Pro Stops!?

For this card they recomment at leat a power supply rating of 450 watts. If you have lower than this then I would suggest upgrading the power supply. A 550 watt psu is reasonably priced and should give you plenty of power for future use. Hope this helps.

Screen going blank for a second or two while video freezes then jumps.

If you have on board graphics try removing video card and reboot when computer rebooted turn it of and refit card and restart when restarted computer should recognize new hard ware and should find the already installed drivers if not try installing drivers again
Sometimes windows does not recognize new hardware until its refitted
had this problem with modems alot and the above method solved it

Graphics cards

Hi noxiney, you're MSI motherboard does have 1 opened AGP 8x4x slot. You can install & run the ATI Radeon X1650 PRO AGP. You can not run PCI-Express because there are no PCI-E slots on the board. There are PCI (White in color) on the board but the AGP slot is much faster than the PCI (White in color slots). The manual states the AGP card can only support 1.5volt video cards & not 3.3volt AGP cards. (Keep this in mind when looking for an AGP card).
Below is a link to a bunch of AGP 8x4x video cards. One or two include DDR2 memory. Carefull where you buy. Check the warranty. (Longer is better). The first one on the list would be compatible. Its not DDR2 but it does have 512MB of memory.

This card is 1.5v compatable.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3101648&CatId=318
& this is compatable.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1642902&CatId=318
Just remember, if the card can run both 8x & 4x it should support the 1.5volt needed to function on the MB.

Enjoy!

Mike
