Question about Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD Recorder

1 Answer

The dvd recorder has stopped recognising dvds that previously it would play quite happily. Is the likely cause a dirty lens or is it more likely to be something to do with the spindle? I get the "cannot read error". Other dvds seem to play quite happily.

I presume you hade cleaned the discs and the players optical lense before posting this request and also tried them on another player?

Basicaly If they do not work on other players then the discs have now failed for some reason: many budget priced discs I have come across only work for a few years.

If you have a 'spindle problem' then your laser is probably slowly moving off track. If so you should be able to record and then playback on a GOOD disc for a while.

Could just be a dirty lens.
Try cleaning the lens with a good quality micr-fiber cloth found in eye-glass cleaning kits. May need to wet the tip of the cloth with rubbing alcohol .

Many of my dvds will not play!! these are not recorded... all origional... some play and others dont... why??

The most likely solution is a dirty DVD lens. Check to see if the movies that aren't playing are dual layer vs. the ones that are. I have seen this a million times. Clean the lens either with a DVD lens cleaner(available at any electronic store) or DIY with some q-tips and rubbing alcohol.

My CD/DVD Player doesnt recognise any CD or DVDs.

the laser lens is dirty or damaged...a laser lens cleaner cd might help..if that doesn't solve it then the laser lens is damaged...you can purchase a relativley cheap dvd player that plays divx/mp4 files and (s)vcd video with cd audio and mp3 support. some come with usb ports and some support .jpeg files(pictures) depending on where you live the price varies.

I have a few purchased DVDs that will not play. Two have played one time. The message is "No Disk". Thanks. Suzanne

Try getting a lens cleaner and running it. I dont know why but sometimes when the lens is dirty they will get picky about what they will play. You would think that they would just quit! Anyway the lens cleaner should work. Also avoid touching the hold in the middle of the disc. That is where the drive hub that spins the disc goes. No spin no play. Try cleaning the holes on the discs that do not play. Good Luck!!

Dvd drive dose not recognise any dvds i put in it keeps saying unknown disc

If your unit is older the optical pick up lens may be dirty or has gone bad. Most Philips units are exchange items only, meaning they replace it under warranty instead of fixing it, if its out of warranty there usually are no parts or service information on them. Philips was bought be Funai and is not the company it used to be. Check if the unit will play a audio CD, if it does the pickup assembly is bad, some will play a CD but not a DVD. You may be able to clean the p/u lens with alcohol and a Q-tip. The lens is under the clamp that holds the disc while spinning.

Not reading some discs

Hi,

You should try a lens cleaner. The lens might just simply be dirty which is causing all your troubles.
