Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

1 Answer

Model # GC5SHGXLB01 Serial # SP50330087 The meat bin (middle of three) ices up in left front corner. None of the other bins do this. It does this no matter what is in the bin. If I turn the temp. to 6 with 7 being the warmest, it goes away. Of course the food is not as cold. There are no vents or obstructions in the area. I am aware of another person with the exact same situation. I called Whirlpool and they had never heard of this problem. Any ideas? Thank you for your help..Diane in Seattle

Hi,

By design one of the coldest parts of the refrigerator is the meat pan. Meat will keep the longest close to the freezing point. This area, the top shelf in the back and the very bottom back are cold spots.

Warm moist air moves to and attaches to the coolest surface. Frost is caused by moisture condensation on these cool surfaces. If everything is working correctly, in a sealed refrigerator the moisture should flow to and attract to the evaporator coils located in the freezer.

Since the meat pan is the coldest place in the fresh food section, then that is where the frost will be noticed first.

Saying all that here is what is causing it.

#1 More moisture entering the refrigerator than it is designed to absorb. This is due to an air leak, the most common place for this to occur is the door seal. If it is not sealing 100% all around it can cause too much moisture to enter the frig. Even if the breach in the gasket is not near the meat bin that is where the moisture will travel.

#2 Air flow. This is critical throughout the refrigerator, if air is not passing through all the places it is designed to moisture will not flow to the freezer section. The controls should be run at midpoint or close to midpoint for the freezer and fresh food sections for optimal air flow. Check to make sure nothing is blocking the vent in the top left corner of the fresh side, and the return vent located about midway up on the left wall of the fresh food section. Make sure items do not 'flow over the sides of the shelves to block air flow.

I hope this helps. My best guess is that the door gasket is not sealing well on the frig door.

Good Afternoon Friend, that's a great question!

In order to provide you the correct instructions on how to clean the bins of your Frigidaire refrigerator I will need your model number please. You can typically find the serial tag (which lists your model number) inside the cabinet, on the left/right side wall. Thank you! - Z

Where are the bin full sensors located for cme256ws-1c full light on will not make ice

The bin full sensors are located behind the water sump tray. Pull the front cover off remove the white plastic guard. Remove the ice deflector grate that is in the water sump tray. Now look where the ice falls down into the bin to the right and left side there is where the bin sensors are you have to pull them sideways you can also open the control panel and look where the bin sensor wire runs and follow it. pull the bin sensors and clean the eyes or replace them.

How do i get to the sensors for full bin to clean them?SCOTSMAN model#cme506as

These units have a real problem with the bin controls. I can't begin to tell you how bad. There are two - for lack of a better term - paddles - that are basically just pushed into the left and right side of the drop area that have small lenses in them with a low level beam that when broken indicates a full bin. You have to reach in from under the bin opening and feel to the left and right, pull the paddles toward the middle and there should be enough slack on the wires to get a good hold of them and clean the lenses with a Q-tip soaked in grapefruit juice. Pop them back in and try them - if that doesn't work (and sorry but most of the time it doesn't) then they will have to be replaced.

ONLY A LITTLE ICE BEING MADE

the ref. valve is it blinking? If so its telling us we have a problem. Could be a drain issue or a bad thermistor. Depending on the model and serial it could mean a board and thermistors because their calibrated together.

You have to remove the bin to access the inner workings and the hi-temp safety is strapped to the suction line. You just look for two black wires disappearing into the line insulation to find it.

To remove the bin you: 1. Unplug the unit. 2. Take the top off and remove the sliding bin door, 3. Remove the front bottom louver, 4. Look straight back and disconnect the drain hose from the bottom of the bin, 5. In the louver opening look in the top corner and there will be a screw in each side going straight up into the bottom of the bin. Remove these two screws and lift the bin up and out.

If you are going to run the unit with the bin off you will have to cover the condenser area so that the air is forced over the condenser and be prepared to catch any ice that is produced.

Error code IF or 1F not making ice model #795,77562... Sears/LG

You posted under an incorrect model number, so can only give general info. IF is a code for ice room fan. It is a fan located in a plastic box in the upper left hand corner of the freezer. The IF code shows up if the control board does not get a feedback signal from the fan telling the control board that the fan is running. I'd check to see if there is some ice blocking the fan blade. If that is not the case, you will need a meter to do further diagnostics to find out if your problem is with the fan motor or the control board. (note: when you turn the icemaker off, the fan will no longer blow cold air into the ice room, and all the ice will melt. Also, when the icemaker bin is full, the same basic thing can happen. Steady use of ice or dumping the bin will prevent ice from melting in bin.) The fan runs on 12 to 16 volts DC (variable speed), and the feed back signal is about 4.5 volts DC.

Melded mass of ice in bin

The only thing I can offer is to limit the out put of the machine closer to what your needs are.Or bag the ice and store in a freezer. The ice pushing down while melting is what is causing the BIG FREEZE. The bin for storage may be too big for your needs, at least at the time you write this. When the demand goes up (warmer weather) the ice would be used more and the pressure pushing down will alternate as well as people getting scoops out more often this will help prevent such a freeze up in warmer weather.

Faulty ice maker

Hello. Yes, that is the correct position for the icemaker feeler arm. The updated icemaker has a longer feeler arm that hangs down a little more (thereby shutting off sooner when the ice piles up not so high).

Your water leak onto your food is from water spilling out of the front left corner of the ice tray during fill. This has also been updated with a plastic lip that keeps the water from sloshing out when filling up.

The photo shows that your ice tray appears to be unlevel and drooping in the front left corner. This happens with flex tray icemakers over time. The icetray does not fully flex back to its level posiiton. I do not feel you need to replace the entire icemaker. Repalcing just the ice tray should fix your issue.

Hope this helps, please rate my solution.
