Question about Brother HL 5250DN Laser Printer
Drum light on and its not printing, but making a loud noise
Drum light being on doesnt always mean the drum is bad. Are there other lights on and are they solid or blinking? May be a fatal service error with a secondary error that can be gotten by pressing a button while the first error is showing.
Here's the LED chart and meanings:
View it online so it shows the blink animations. The chart will guide you through corrective measures. One thing these Brother printers have had problems with in my experience that causes it to make noise and stop is a broken gear on the fuser that they call the fixer or heater assy. It breaks and falls into the gear that drives it, or deforms the upper tube that contains the heat lamp, sometimes just jamming the mechanism but other times it can actually cause breakage of the lamp. Review the error lamps and if nothing comes from it you might have to locate a reputable servicer, replace the printer, or dig into it yourself. Justmanuals.com has the 5250 manual for instant download for a small fee.
