Question about Danby (DAR604BLS) Refrigerator

Open Question

My Danby Fridge is propane and is used at our cottage only from May to October and even at that it is intermittently used depending on when we are there. We always make sure the baffle is clean and the back is dust free. It has worked well for many years. This time when I lit it the flame was very very large, basically the almost the size (diameter) of the baffle pipe and I was unable to see the tip as it was inside the baffle. It was still a good blue flame and the fridge worked but created a smell (like a burning) that was very unpleasant so we shut the fridge off after 3 hours. I also felt that this was not right and when something is not right with propane, I shut it off! I have done the following but with no reduction in the flame size. Replaced the fuel nozzle and replaced the regulator on my propane tank. After being unsuccesful, I then turned down the gas flow with the lever on the line. This dropped the flame to its normal size - success! - but unfortunately the fridge did not get cold after leaving it on for 5 hours. The cottage is in a remote area with no roads and would be difficult to get out so my preference is to fix it myself but I am not sure where to go from here. A local gas store suggested it might be the thermostat. HELP!

fault is the thermostat. auto defrost on a fridge (but not a freezer) is a function of the thermostat

My propane fridge will not get cold

You have described an Ammonia refrigerator. The chemicals in the system are Ammonia, water, and hydrogen. In a crazy system of events, heating the bottom of the unit will cause the chemicals to seperate and then reunite in a complete cycle.
If you have never smelled a strong ammonia smell, then yes, the upside down thing will many times work.
The chemicals can become seperated in the wrong areas of the interior components.
Perform the upside down thing for 24 to 48 hours. Return to normal. Pause it for minimum of 4 yours and try again.
If the burner is working correctly, then you should see some results.

Propane refridgerator wont get cold

It most likely is air locked. Disconnect propane line and burb it ...tip it on its side for an hour and try connecting the gas line and start it up

You should change it back to regular gas the problem is in pressure reg gas come to your home at much greater pressure then propane that's why it takes longer to dry the other thing is to keep your lint trap clean because it can affect drying once in while blow out lint hose as well

Our Danby propane refrigerator has given us sterling service for about five years, but it has suddenly stopped cooling in the refrigerator box-the freezer still works. Any clues?

Having a simular problem; try changing your regulator on your propane tank. I'm try to find a new thermostat myself. Good Luck!
