Bottom freezers are notorious for icing up. We inherited two ge freezers and both had this problem every few years. Always try unplugging for 12 hours then waiting 30 mins before trying to service. In most cases it is just bad design or bad seals on the doors building up ice.

Hello,

If the freezer is between zero-10 degrees and the fan motor is running usually indicate the airflow is not getting into the fresh food section.

You might check the damper control to see if its opening up and/or the vent clear.

If you remove the back wall inside the freezer and find that the evaporator coils have ice built up on them, this usually indicates a defrost problem (defrost heater and thermostat or defrost timer.

You can follow the link below to troubleshoot your refrigerator problem, i mean follow the link to service the defrost timer an other parts that could cause the problem.

Take care.

FREEZER WORKING FRIDGE NOT COOLING

Its defrost problem, the freezer should cool, then freeze, then defrost cycle should start. In your case freezer is cooling, then freezing, but its not defrosting. That's why fridge section is not cooling.-------

Profile refrigerator section not cooling

We are not sure what precipitated the temperature swing up; however, within about an hour of emptying quite a lot of foodstuffs from top and bottom sections of the unit, I felt the cold air start to flow out of the rear vent. Within two hours, the upper section had dropped to about 50 degrees and by the next morning to 36. The freezer seemed to recoved on its own too, having risen to almost 8 degrees and then recovering to 0. Just patience and a smaller food payload?
