NIC is network Interface Adapter, and LAN Card is exactly the same. Its just another name for NIC.

Nic card not working? How to troubleshoot? Is there a plug and play nic card that can be installed onto this desktop PC?

Hello Sqis,

You can purchase any nic card which is compatible with WinXP or 7.

Insert the card in PC Slot of the motherboard.

Install the driver for the card and it will work.

H there,

Try replacing the ethernet cable, If it does not work try reinstalling the drivers of your NIC card or LAN card. If it still does not work your NIC or LA card is busted.

Having lan card problems what does it affect how much does it cost to replace and fix

C521 LAN card is integrated in MB.
You can Flash the BIOS to most current and load the latest driver (Support.dell.com) see if the card works, next I'd reset BIOS defaults, and try again. If NIC will still not work, it may be damaged. Turn it off in BIOS and replace with a PCI NIC

LAN automatically disconnects while downloading and starts working only after disabling and again enabling the local area connection

With this issue it could be the Hardware / Software compatibility. The first thing to do is ensure the latest drivers are installed or the NIC. If the latest drivers are installed I would recommend replacing the NIC. They are less than $30 and they come with great drivers, and if the old NIC is onboard it would be advantageous to get it off the Motherboard. It would be best to open up the computer before you run out to get the new NIC and makesure the motherboard can support a PCI card. This card slips into the White slot that is about 3 inches long. If you have a White slot that is about 1 inch long this PCI card will not fit into it the card you will need is a PCI Express x1 NIC. The rest of the information you will need is provided by the NIC Manufacturer.
