Question about Air Conditioners

1 Answer

My Goodman heat pump doesn't seem to cool anymore. The pump does not start at all when we put it to Cooling. However, the pump works well when we put it to Heating. The compressor was changed in 2006 even though this is not a very old heat pump (2001).

Sounds like a bad reversing valve. Look into that before considering a new compressor again.

I am getting hot air instead of cool air from my heat pump when it is in the cooling mode.

The problem is in the thermostat wiring. Y1 on an air conditioner, brings on the cooling. On a heat pump, it brings on the compressor, which generally fails to heat mode. The O wire operates the reversing valve, which brings on cooling. If these wires are reversed, or not hooked up, you will not get cooling.

Goodman heat pump stopped cooling

yes, but I would try a "hard-start" kit before replacing the compressor itself

Can not get Goodman 3-ton heat pump out of heat mode and into cooling mode

The reversing valve may be stuck. It allows the unit to switch between heating and cooling. You may be able to give it a tap but only on one of the ends, not the sides, and only lightly. You could also unplug the reversing valve from the circuit board. Some reversing valves are energized in heat mode some in A/C mode. When you unplug it, if it shifts, you will hear a loud hiss as the valve shifts and the pressure equalizes.

I would like to know the specifications of my Goodman model CPKE42-18 AC/Heat pump system. BTUs heating and cooling? Thank You,

Many HVAC people talk in tonnage. One ton is equal to 12,000 Btus. Therefore your model specifies your cooling tonnage at 3 and 1\2 tons. Your heating would be determined by how many if any supllimentary heat strips are added. If you live in Anahiem or Miami that's not really important. But if you live anywhere that gets down into the 40's at night you'll want strips. Cooling wise depending on where you live and what your insulation is like, I'd say your unit is good for 1100-1300 Sq feet of living space.

GSH13 Goodman heat pump split system is running a long time in cooling mode and will not cool below 74 degrees. A lot of condensation generated. The low side pressures 78 to 81 and high side pressures are...

Check sub cooling and super heat. the New ac units are very critical to charge. There is a charging chart on the inside of the cover to the unit outside. Check temp difference across coil. Should be 18 to 22 degress. If you have an ampmeter. Check the heat strips one 5 kw might be stuck.(sequencer). This would cause you not be able to pull down temp. Goodman unit are hard to charge to get the temp difference across coil. Feedback please

Goodman with 2 thermostats, freezes in summer, no heat in winter

is the system zoned? if so maybe the zoning control board to the damper motor is wired improperly. when a system freezez its because of 1- restricted air flow across coil, (maybe dirty filter) or 2-low refrigerant charge. again could depend on how its zoned.

Goodman PHJK048 Heat Pump Package

ok...where to start.lol ....the thermostat is just a switch. It will tell the unit to run or not run.if you measure the temp with the heatpump running, the air is warmer than 68 but it feels cool to you because your body is 98.6.The unit will run more often and for longer periods when the temperature drops outside for a few reasons.First, your house has more of a load to heat, meaning you have more heat loss because of the difference in temperatures outside and inside.Second, your heat pump pulls heat from the outside air.The colder the air outside, the less btu's for it to pull.If you have anymore questions hillbuck29@aol.com Hope this helps,Dave

Goodman ac / heat pump

I just had a new unit installed and I am surfing for troubleshooting tips too. My unit is doing the same... cools well heat sucks. my problem has been isolated down to the reversing valve... It is constantly energised which means it is constantly in a/c mode even when kicking on the heat strips... We disconnected a line at the thermostat and it is working well as a heater now. You may want to check yours to see if it is actually kicking over into to heat mode... -rob

Warm Air in Cooiing mode

Warm air in cooling mode usually means that the thermostat needs to be set to energise the reversing valve in cooling. To do this is simple just by opening the stat and moving the selector switch to o. Everything else will wire color to color. r-r, g-g, y-y, o-o, w-w and brown. If you want the heat strips separate wire brown to emergency heat on thermostat. Hope this helps, RepairUSA
