You can get a pull rope at wal-mart.measure the belt and any parts store or place that sells lawnmower belts should have one.if the rope broke close to the end knot just pull the end knot with some needle nose pliers.once you have all the old rope out lay the old rope pieces on the ground and cut the new rope to match it as far as length.turn the pulley that the pull rope goes in six turns counerclockwise.then turn the slot the knot was in to the hole the pullrope goes thru and fish it thru then pull it up and out with apaiar of needlnose have someone hold the pulley until you tie a small knot in the end of the pullrope the hold the pullrope and let it pull it in.you might have to cut some off at the handle if its still too long.to do this pull some rope out and tie a quick knot so the rope can't slip back if you let it go.

My craftsman 5hp tiller hit large rock, tines stopped, loud noise followed and now pull string won't budge. Why?

most tillers are equipped with a shear pin down by the tines. for this reason. if you hit something it will shear the pin and not do damage to your machine. it don't sound like that happened here. make sure the tines are disengaged. if the rope wont pull it may have sheared the flywheel key. there are videos on you tube that will show you how to take off the cover, the flywheel and check to see if this has happened. it may have locked the engine up at the worst scenario.

I have a Yard Machine rear tine tiller that has sat unused for 4 years. I replaced the engine and while in goes forward and backward, when I engage the tines they won't rotate and the engine bogs

Transmission/differential.
Perhaps the unit sat for 4 years because the tines would not turn and your replacement engine has not solved the real problem.
I'd say disassemble the chain case to discover what's locking the tine drive.

Tiller Trouble 3/18/12

You might try using an upper cylinder lubricant to free it up. Use a very light oil such as marvel mystery oil and begin with placing a few drops on top of the piston - you will have to take the spark plug out in order to insert the oil. Let it sit overnight with the oil and then try turning it over with the rope. Hope this helps.

Own an older (1990's) American Yard Products model WER500 Weedeater rear tine rotortiller. The engine runs great but when I engage to til, the tines won't turn. The belt is fine and pulleys turn...

Yes, there are shear pins on the tines and on the wheels. Can you check to see if the belt actually moves when the pulleys turn?

On my tecumseh tiller the rope broke and the setup has rivets instead of screws is there another way to get it off without removing the rivets?

I'm guessing you have a 3.5 or 4HP 4 stroke with the recoil built into the top of the housing? If so, just remove the entire blower housing. It's only 4 bolts. You can then disassemble the recoil assembly to replace the rope.

Help, new craftsman rear tine tiller stopped tilling.

It sounds like the belt just stretched. Now you need to move the belt tensioner over to put more pressure on it.

Tiller tines run wrong way.

DEpending on the machine you can take the tines off and turn it around. The only other thing to do is get into the tranny and see why it is going into reverse gear and not forward operating. This sounds like it is a trans problem so even switching the tines around will help it will not solve the problem until it is looked at

Wheels turn, tines don't

These machines have an arm to activate the tines independantly from the wheels, make sure that the tine arm is in the on position.
If not, seems like you have a transmission problem, you'll have to get dirty to fix this one and open up the transmission casing to see if its just the link between the tine arm and tine crankshaft that broke or if its more serious.
