The engine starts but shuts off right away. I remove the space arrester and I replace the air filter. I also sprayed the carb with carb cleaner.

Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor.
Sometimes you can get by with priming it a few times, and letting it
run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,
but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
If the mower is over a couple years old, then I also recommend that you
buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will
get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, count the
number of turns it takes to seat the jets from their original position.
That way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns
they were in/out.

Cub Cadet has gas, has spark, has air -still won't start/run

Are you pulling the plug to check for wetness after cranking it a few times, WITHOUT using the starting fluid? Also, I would recommend using carb cleaner in place of the starting fluid. Starting fluid runs the engine VERY hot for a brief time and can possibly damage rings, valves, and aluminum parts.

Usually it starts straight away - haven't used it for a while and its very cold. \it doesn't even sound like starting when I pull the cord

Try removing the air filter and shooting a couple of shots of carb/choke cleaner through the throat of the carburetor. When you spray it, try the have the throttle wide open. Then turn on the choke and immediately try to start it. Try this procedure a few times. If you hear the engine "pop" or even if it starts to run (if only for a few seconds) then we are on the right track. We are trying to get the fuel pickup procedure going from the carburetor to the engine. Priming it this way with carburetor/choke aerosol spray will do that. Make sure the air filter is clean and that the spark plug is clean and gapped properly. If you want to clean the plug, rather than replace it, use a stiff steel wire brush to scrub away carbon and deposits. If this procedure doesn't work, we may have to drain the fuel system and remove the float bowl on the carb and remove and clean the main jet to the carb. Post back. I am always willing to help.

My mower starts fine and then it idles up and down and up and down and dies? I have changed oil, plugs, fuel filter, air filter

First thing to check would be the base governor setting.This should be done by someone with small engine expertise.Can be fatal to engine and do bodily harm if not done right.Other things to check would be air leaks where carb manifold attaches to heads.Remove air cleaner assembly to gain access to carb linkage and manifold.You will need a can of carb cleaner to perform this check.Start engine and hold throttle at just above idle speed and carefully spray area where manifold attaches to head,do this on both ends of manfold and at carb base,area where carb mounts to manifold,if leak is present the engine will either die or their will be a change in rpm,s.If no leaks are found in these areas have carb cleaned,it is very likely there is dirt in the carb.You can do the same as above,start engine and hold throttle just above idle and spray carb cleaner into carb,engine will try to stall when doing this,only spray carb cleaner in carb while engine is running.If this doesn't help have carb cleaned and adjusted.Info from small engine tech with forty plus years experience.

I need help with removing, cleaning, and installing the carbs. on a 1983 Suzuki gr650 Tempter. I need to be talked to and showed like I am Forrest Gump.

It is actually very simple. The carbs are mounted to the intake by 2 bolts. There is a clamp on the other end that connects the air filter to the carbs. Before removing these connections you will first turn off the gas to the carbs via the petcock at the tank. You will then remove the throttle and choke linkage, (taking note of how it is attached for reassembly purposes). You may now remove first the air filter clamps then the bolts that connect the carbs to the intake manifold at the engine end of the carbs. I suggest you buy kits to rebuild the carbs, they contain needle valve seats and gaskets. You can disasemble the carbs and soak in carb cleaner overnight..then you will blow them out with compressed air. Make sure you remove the plaque build up in the carb bowls. You can now reassemble with the new gaskets and reinstall in reverse order. Good Luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful!

MTD 5hp. Starting and running only while I spray

Remove the fuel line from the carb. Drain fuel tank and blow thru fuel line until clear. If you use compressed air be very careful to use LOW pressure. I just use my mouth. reinstall fuel line replace the fuel filter, add a new spark plug for good measure and refill gas tank

You should be chipping away right soon!

My craftsman riding mower model917.274641 won't start. I was using it and when I stopped to put a bagger on it wouldn't start. have replaced plug,gas and air filter. It backfires sometimes when turning...

First, take the air filter off and spray a shot of carb cleaner/ starting fluid in the carb. If it starts for a second and runs on the prime then its a fuel issue. Check fuel filter, fuel delivery, and carb.

Kids quad will not start

Install a new spark plug. Remove and clean the air filter. Spray some starting fluid into the carb and try to start the motor. If it doesn't start then remove the carb and clean it;
Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side or bottom of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.
Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two adjusters down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
carb back together and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.

The engine will not throttle up and it runs rough. Dies at an idle. Whats wrong Already changed spark plug and put new gas in

Sounds like the carb is needing a good cleaning. Get a spray can of Berryman's Carb spray cleaner.
Take the carb off and clean the carb bowl (if it's a 4 stroke motor) and remove the gas line, and with the spray tube nozzle, spray out as much of the jets, orifices, etc in your carb, let it dry out and reassemble.
Also, take the air filter/cleaner off and make sure it's clean. If it's full of dust and dirt, it will choke the carb off and it'll die at idle.
You can test this by removing the air filter element and starting the tiller. Alot of the small engines have a low oil sensing device and will shut down the engine if there is insufficient oil in the crankcase... be sure to check that too.

I have a honda magna vf750 the no1 carb keeps sticking aqnd high ?

Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. Start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb.
clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.

2002 ford taurus won't start at first crank in the morning

remove the air filter housing from the throttle body, or if its mult-ported injection, remove the large air duct. Do this the night before. The next day, before cranking and having a spray can of carb. cleaner, spray a couple of shots of carb cleaner either into the large air duct, spray towards the engine, or if its single body injection, spray directly on to the throttle body.

Crank engine immediately, preferrably have some one else sitting in the car to start it after you spray.

If the car even tries to start, replace cold start relay.
