Question about Campbell Hausfeld 20 - Gallon Air Compressor

1 Answer

I have an air compressor the electric motor turns on but will not turn the fan belt. It sounds like it is stuck. One time I tapped the housing with a hammer and it started but that only worked once. The model number is VT619600.

Screaming noise from ac no cold air

It sounds to me that your belt or tensioner is worn, if the noise goes away when the ac is off then it is just the belt slipping, it takes a lot of power to run the compressor and if the belt is worn it most likely slipping on the pully when you engage the clutch.

I have a Goodman Heat pump unit. The fan motor stopped working and the condenser does not turn on, it hums as if the load is there but nothing turns on? Capacitor?

Capacitor or stuck fan motor/compressor. use caution when working with capacitor as they hold large amounts of electricity for a long time. they can be very dangerous.as always turn off the breaker and check for stray voltage before touching any electrical components

Air compresor Craftsman 921.153101 it spound like is one but it wont run at all. It sounds like the motor is stuck

if its belt driven ,unplug it(safety first)remove the belt and try to turn the pump by hand.if the pump turn plug it back without the belt. and try it .if the motor doesnt run.check the contacts on your pressure switch.if they are ok and try again.if not you need a new motor.if the motor ,the pressure switch contacts, and the pump are fine.put the belt back back on bleed your tank to zero with an air gun and try to run it.if it work well till it cuts of check if your bleeder release air.you might have pressure stuck in your pump.the compressor needs to release pressure for a soft start.hope this help!

Hi i have an Ingersoll rand 80 gal, 7.5 hp, model #2475 air compressor and the electric motor is arcing when trying to run then blows the breaker. Any ideas? thanks

It sounds like either a problem with the brushes in the motor or the engine shaft is jammed. Have you on many previous occasions run the compressor on that circuit with no problems? It may be as simple as the breaker is not sufficient for the power draw of the compressor.

If you have had the unit for awhile and it has been run lots and the engine shaft spins easily when turned by hand (unplug first) then it may be an issue with the brushes on the electric motor. Take the engine apart and replace the brushes with new ones from an electric motor shop. Take pictures as you disassemble the unit so you will be able to refer to them when it comes time for reassembly.

If the motor shaft does not turn by hand, remove the belt that connects it to a compressor and try again. If this works, reconnect the power and see if the electric motor now works with power on and the belt off. If the motor works and there is no short to throw the breaker, then your compressor is in need of a rebuild and that will cost money and time.

Hello Sounds like runaway blower. The relay in the blower unit is stuck/welded & should be replaced. In the mean time you can turn off the service switch at the unit.If you tap the relay it will shut off (for now) untill the next demand and get stuck again. The relay can be of many types and locations ,trace the wires from the motor to a small box/cube and tap it to free it.

I have a craftsman air compressor (small) with 2 wheels on end, my probelm is when i plug it up it buzzes only, will not start motor, what could be problem

unplug it and see if you can turn the motor pulley by hand, it should turn freely. If it does, check to see if the motor runs with the belt off. If the motor runs by itself then either the belt was too tight or the compressor is seized.

Ac fan not turning on I can ''stick start it'' but which direction?

The condensor fan should be sucking air from the top and blowing it through the coils, probably a counter clockwise direction. The buzzing/humming sound is confusing to me. A humming sound sounds like a motor that can not turn over to start. A starting capacity would be needed. Just because you changed it out last year does not mean it is good. A buzzing sound sounds like a contactor problem. Contactors buzz and after a while, they will fail. In any case, you can "stick start" the condensor fan PROVIDED you are sure the ac compressor is working (this is for a short and temporary use). Also, you may have a high load duty capacitor that assists in the unit running. This will affect your condensor fan operation if it is not good. Unless you know all the components and operations of ac electrical, I would highly recommend calling out a professional.
