Mower fires but cuts out after 2 seconds

I bought this ALBA mower on E-bay last year. Difficult to start but used twice in '09 and ran OK. This year used once thwn had problems starting. Fires and runs for about 2 seconds before cutting out. Local mower repairer says they have tried everything but have made no difference. What might be the problem and is it likely to be fixable ? I believe the engine etc is Chinese and there are no parts available.

It sounds as though is not getting fuel to the engine. I would replace the mower repair place, it is likely it needs the fuel system from tank to carb cleaned and demineraized/waterized rather than new parts.

We used our trailmower once and it ran out of gas filled it up and it hasn't started since why not?

I would say you have water in your gas. Drain your system completely, gas tank, fuel lines, and most of all the fuel bowl at the bottom of your carburetor. You should be fine. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

Starts but wont run and shuts down in seconds

Read entire posting before doing anything else first.
I discovered what the problem was, after changing spark plugs, fuel filter and air filter (At this point the mower would not start at all):
1. Checking for spark. I got spark out of both plug wires. The modules were OK.
2. Checking for fuel flow. Only small amount of fuel coming out of fuel pump. I changed the fuel pump. (I bought a Briggs and Stratton for $22.50 instead of a Kohler for $60.00. Same fuel filter!)
It ran fine for 10 min. then quit again!
I loosened the gas cap and it has ran fine since then, by keeping the gas cap loose. I will replace the gas cap.
Note: It was difficult to find the problem, since I replaced the filter and removed the vapor lock, so it ran for awhile. I then checked the fuel pump and removed the vapor lock, so it ran for awhile. I would suggest that people with similar problems, loosen the gas cap to see if that works first!

John Deere LA110 riding mower has gas in the oil

Try stripping it down and having alook sounds like the piston ring has snapped and is pumping gas into the oil that would explain why the oil is coming out the the exhaust the black smoke is just oil burning up ou also might want to clean the carb alittle too.

I bought a craftman lawn mower 6.75hp. I only used it twice, and then I let the lawn mower set in my garage for about 6 years, with the gas and oil in it. Now it won't start, and I did get it to start...

If it has been stood with the same fuel in it for any lenght of time, then the fuel will go bad, drain the fuel and re fill with fresh fuel, if there is a bowl drain on the carb slacken this and drain the bowl, now try again, if it does not sort itself out after a lenght of running then will need to remove the carb float bowl and blow an air line through the jets.

I bought a john deere riding mower less than a year ago. i used it last season without any problems. I think the last time i used it, was in august 2010. winter came about, the grass wasn't growing, so...

First, I've had a motorcycle for almost 50 years and have never drained the gas. At one point it was not used for 3 years. It started, I added gas and it ran fine.
Second, next time you are running the machine and it begins to stall, immediately loosen the gas cap. If it starts to run good again, drill out the air vents on the cap.

It sounds like you have an ign. wire grounded or your ign switch has a short in it. Also remove the cover on your starter drive to be sure it has released.

empty the fuel bowl & tank. start out with fresh fuel for one. then get a new spark plug if it still dont start. as far as the cable thats another deal completely but it shouldnt cause it to stall out. but if it ran last year it will this year too. always run it empty for summer storage. its your personal choice if you use a summer storage lubricant.
