Question about Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 Web Camera

2 Answers

Microphone issues I installed my VX-3000 camera and everything seemed to be working properly until I did the tests on it. For some reason, the microphone will not work. The speakers work fine but no matter how much I mess with the camera I can't get the microphone to work. Any suggestions?

You may have a laptop with a built in mic as well - make sure the webcam mic is set as default.

TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray or from Control Panel
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
To set required (webcam) mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click 'OK'
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays

Microphone not working

I had a similar issue with a Logitech Webcam. My microphone drivers didn't install correctly for some reason.
Right click "My Computer"
Click Preferences.
Click Device Manager. Find your webcam's microphone in this list. It will be separate from the webcam itself.
If the drivers aren't functioning properly, it will either show as red, or yellow. Right click and either Enable the device, or download/repair the driver.
Hope this helps! It worked for me after repairing the driver for it. Best of luck :)

Hello,

Check first the connection on your computer. For some initial test try to put an external microphone on the unit this we will know if you have a problem on the microphone input on your computer, and also try to test the webcam into a different computer.

Let me know here again.

Microsoft vx-3000 won't work on MSN!!

What you can do is click the Sound Icon beside the Nudge Button. It might bring up a window titled "Set up Audio and Video - Speaker/Microphone or Speakerphone" the Microsoft Vx-3000 has a microphone built in, so you can change your audio settings to "Microsoft Vx-3000" , then click next. The next one is Webcam. You can change the default settings to Microsot vx-3000.

If you've tried changing your settings for MSN before, then I'm not sure. This is the clever way for me :P
