The problem is an amp protection circuit which was designed to keep the 606 safe from a power surge.

Protect mode

The most common cause of this is that one of the speaker voice coils is shorted or the wiring to one of the speakers is shorted. Disconnect the speakers one at a time and see if the amp goes out of protect, if no change you have a shorted output circuit in the main amp section.

I couldn't able to switch on my sony str db930 .when it was use it say me protecter.

Check all of your speaker connections... usually the PROTECT cuts in when speaker wires get crossed or you have blown a speaker.

this PROTECT message also shows if the amp chip(s) have blown in the unit

I get a message Protect. All other controls are

Usually the protect is a safe mode to indicate that your set is unsafe. Starrt by checking the speakers, speaker wires for shorting. detach the speaker lines and power on the set for confrimation. check in power/auxially circuits in the set. it is possible that your mechanism drive / audio output drive Ic's could have shorted. Most of these cirrcuits have an error detection of higher current to cut off power and issue a protect warning. so discoonect the IC power to confirm. Hope this helps. Good day

Can't erase messages shows there gone but as soon as I try recording get message full RCA RP 5050A

Does this unit connect to remote device (computer or ext. controller)? If so, it may be remotely manageable, and if on a Windows computer might get set to "write protect" (which will mean no erase, but doesn't explain why the dir is erased). Some units have a lock or data protect function or button, once again doesn't explain why the list of messages would be gone. Worst case is something's wrong with the firmware, meaning probably not worth fixing.

Stereo cutting off when volume is over 29

Twenty nine sounds pretty loud to me. A shorted voice coil in any one of your speakers will drop its resistance value so if the amplifier thinks its feeding a short circuit, will "protect" itself by shutting off. Check wiring carefully and each speaker at a little lower volume for sounds of distortion ie: shorted voice coils...

Getting a "Protect" message in the display which then shuts down

The speaker wires were al little frayed, so I cut and stripped new 3/8" leads and when re-inserted the receiver worked fine. The problem was a short from the frayed wires touching either the back of the receiver or some other metal near the terminal.

Vollume trouble

the system protect is usually displayed when a condition of short or shorting is occurring in the speaker wiring or the voice coil of any of your speakers.... thte circuit of you reciever is trying to protect itself and you from a very costly repair,,,so it you have another set of speakers try to use them and see if the condition still exists and if it does the problem is in the output section of the receiver,,,and if the protect no longer exists you have fixed your problem,,,good luck
