I have a fault code 41 cannot find hardware device, i see fixes listed by going into the registry but im not confident of changing anything there, is there a free download to fix this?
Here is the explanation and solution for the error code 41:
Code 41
Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
Recommended resolution
A driver was loaded but Windows cannot find the device. This error occurs when Windows does not detect a non-Plug and Play device.
If the device was removed, uninstall the driver, install the device, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver. If the hardware was not removed, obtain a new or updated driver for the device.
If the device is a non-Plug and Play device, a newer version of the driver might be needed. To install non-Plug and Play devices, use the Add Hardware wizard. Click Performance and Maintenance on Control Panel, click System, and on the Hardware tab, click Add Hardware Wizard.
On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.
Good luck.

When you say Norton I assume you men Norton Utilities? It is a good program which I have faith in and have used for many years. If it says you need to download the installer I would do this.
It is possible that you need the installer to load the drivers for the DVD drive (though these are usually simple ATAPI devices and generally (not always) the Window drivers will suit the device. Note: I have an LG DVD in my computer which neeeded to install LG drivers from a disk to get it to run.
I presume by "gear software" that you mean the DVD's manufacturer's software?. If not, then like yourself. I do not know why you should need to download the Installer.
Do a Restore Point before installing the Installer just in case something is wrong here.
After you have installed the Installer and run the driver install again, let me know if it works.
Good luck.

this seems to have worked, but not sure whether this has changed anything else. I did a full scan after downloading this fix and norton then told me I needed to download a driver installer from gear software, why would I need this?
everything working fine now, amazed that someone out there actually took time out to answer my problem, this site is great will tell my mates about it. thanks
