SOURCE: GE Dryer DWSR473GV0WW periodically just hums when turning on switch

if it hums when you start it means switch is ok. problem may be the motor capacitor. to check, take off the top and give the drum a push in the normal direction of rotation. if it goes then motor capacitor is faulty - cheap part

I have a kenmore dryer model #796.81172210 it continues to run until you open the door and will start up if you close it.is it the door sensor

The door switch is working correctly. The drum should turn off and the heater is switched off when the door has been opened and they restart when the door is closed. If you are saying the timer has run down so there is no time remaining and the drum is still turning then the timer is failing to switch off these items.

Dryer will not stop running

If the start switch is stuck or the start knob is stuck in the start position the dryer will run when the door is closed, and the timer is at at a time setting. if you have no heat you might need a heating element or your unit might have a thermal fuse that would need replacing.

G.E. electric dryer will not run, when you turn the switch to start it only hums. What could be the problem, it is only 3 years old. Thank you

First of all check your door switch, make sure it is operational. If the door switch checks good, the start switch could be faulty, in newer dryers the start switch is built into the timer in older dryers your start switch may be seperate, if you have to push on the timer dial to start the dryer, its built into the timer.

Check any other safteys that may be stuck open.Double check anyway. If it wont do anything, I would say its the door switch or the start switch.

Dryer wont start. starter switch is new and timer will run when the door is closed

HI. if the timer is running, and the wiring harness is in good condition, this will confirm motor failure. I would advise to test the operational value of the door switch as well but if the door switch is working, this will only lead to motor failure.

The door switch needs to be replaced

2. the timer does not move

The timer should be replaced

3. Start button

This could be in the start button or at the motor

Dryer won't stop running

The hot wire runs through the start button as a bridge to complete the circuit until the motor centrifigal switch closes the circuit when running. Now if you manually start your dryer and the timer doesnt advance keeping the dryer on until you open the door or advance the timer manually then the timer is good but the motor to advance the cam is faulted. The second scenario is that the dryer is off when the door is open, but when you close the door the dryer starts. With the second scenario we have a closed circuit at all times. At this point you have either a stuck start button or the centrifigal switch is closed. Usually it is the start button on this model.
