i am guessing that you installed windows 7. you didnt say. it sounds like the proper driver is missing for your monitor. you will have to first try to do all the updates from microsoft. after that then go to the manufacturer of the computer and look for video drivers that are compatible with windows 7. if nothing there then go to the site for the maker of your monitor and look for the drivers there.
not knowing the brand of computer or which windows product you installed, makes it hard to give you more info. but i think this will get you started. let us know how this goes.
You can download the drivers from here. Just visit the link and it will direct you to the official download site of Lenovo s10e. Please make sure to download the drivers that matches your operating system. Save the .exe file to your desktop. After downloading, install the driver then restart your computer.
Dell GX260 Drivers Please visit the above link from Dell Official Support. Choose the Operating System you have on your PC. Select "VIDEO" From the Category and download/ install the required drivers. (You may be having Intel 845 Graphics or Radeon). Try Intel Recommended Drivers
The driver depends on the video adapter that you are using. If you are using the integrated one, you need to get the motherboard manufacturer/computer brand. If it is a stand alone card, you need to get the model of that video graphics.
Access the manufacturer's web-site: http://support.dell.com
and enter Dell's unique Asset ID tag (found on the bottom of your laptop) to identify your model, and then select "download",
and then select your Operating System, and then select the "video" device-driver.
