Most engine manufacturers have web sites on the net that can assist you with parts numbers and the like if you have the model number.

Have a 2-4 hp lawnmower where the rewind spring and rope was broke. Have put new spring and rope on-works great in housing. When attach it to lawnmower the rope pulls out but won't retract back in. As soon...

When you remove the recoil shroud ( housing ), the square shaft sticking out should move freely in a counter-clockwise direction and you should hear clicks when you twist. If you don't hear the little balls clicking or the square shaft doesn't move freely counterclockwise, then that square shaft is rusted onto the end of the crankshaft and must be freed before it can be removed. This is a common problem for mowers left out in the elements. Sounds like the shaft is frozen onto the crankshaft end. Procedure: First, disconnect the spark plug. Get a magnet ready because 5 little balls are gonna come rolling out on this upcoming move. Take a 1/4

You need to obtain the model number off the engine and go to a website that has small engine parts, and likely schematics. Enter the model number and find your engine and when you get a list of illustrated parts drawing select the one for the starter or recoil strarter or some such listing. This will give you an exploded view illustrated parts drawing and you need to find the broken parts. Take the number that identifies it on the drawing and look to the associated table. This will give you a part number and allow you to order it.

I hope this helps.

My Craftsman lawn mower starter cord doesn't retract after mower starts.

I have had this situation before on a lawnmower. I didn't have a craftsman, but is probably the same issue. Basically, the spring that recoils the cord back in either broke or came unwound. When the mower is not running, the cogs on the pull chord keeps the cord from coming out. When the mower is running, the spring is not wound enough to hold the chord in and thus releases or doesn't hold it in.
Try pulling the pull chord assembly off and rewind the spring.

Brand new Pope Spitfire 40 lawnmower won't start

Caren,
Drain the fuel completely if it is older than 1 week. Make sure you undo the bolt at the bottom of the fuel bowl to ensure all old fuel is drained. Refill with fresh fuel (premium unleaded) and try again. If it still does not work then remove the spark plug and rest it on the metal of the mower while still attached to the silicone ignition wire. Have someone hold the cut out bar to the handle (as you normally would to run the motor) and pull the cord. You should see sparks being emitted from the spark plug. (Make sure there is no fuel nearby) If you cannot see any sparks then replace the spark plug with a new one and repeat this process. If you still cannot see any sparks being emitted after attatching the new plug to the silicone wire, resting it on the metal of the mower, and pulling the cord to start it as you normally would, the mower will need to have the resistor and capacitor checked by a professional repairer as no spark is being generated.

Good luck.

Lawnmower Starting Pull Cord Replaement

There will be a piece of casing that holds the starter mechanism in. Usually held by 4 screws (probably torx screws unless it's an old machine).
Undo these screws and you will find the cord carrier inside.
Observe how the starter dogs are located, and how it all goes together.
You may be able to remove & replace the cord without taking the carrier off the casing, but it is probably easier if you do.

Then you simply remove the old cord, thread a new cord through the hole & tie it. Reassemble the carrier onto the casing. Thread the cord out of the casing & through the handle, tie that end.
Then wind the cord around the cord carrier until there is a slight tension on the spring.
Screw the casing back on the mower and you're away.

Broken starter cord to petrol generater

You have to tighten the spring inside where the cord goes. The pull cord pulls on leverage by using a clock like spring like a lawn mower. You have to take it all the way apart. The cord part. To get to the spring.

It is strange answering this in a computer section. I answer computer questions and this is certainly not a computer question. Unless you have a wind up computer. Now I have heard of these. Where are you located, if this is a wind up computer.
