SOURCE: Err 01 during slow shutter speed shooting

I having a similar problem and send back to the Canon service centre for repair. Subsequently, it was confirmed that the aperture diaphragm is faulty and need to be replaced.

SOURCE: I am trying to use an older SIGMA 28 - 200 mm f3.5

To NOT get that error you need to use in AV mode. It's the only way that old Sigmas work with the new Canons. It's an aperture bug that old Sigma lens have and some the only way to fix it is to rechip it. The problem is that Sigma no longer rechips the lens.

That's a really odd fault and to be so specific in focal ranges is a further oddity which makes me wonder if it's the mount having a slight bit of movement (slop) in it.

I have that very lens and use it regularly about a year ago I sent it to Canon for some minor service when it came back it had a different "feel" the lens was tighter in operation.

Would it be possible you need to clean the gold contacts on both the lens and body (I know you said it wasn't the contacts) with a red rubber eraser making sure not to get the rubber dust into the sensor area. Then watch the lens as your shift through your focal lengths to actually see if the lens is moving slightly between the lens and body. Make sure the lock is in tight with a distinct click, if all this fails then I'm sure a trip to Canon is in order, it's a great lens and worth the repair.

I keep getting Err 01 and no photo is taken what do I do?


ERR 01 is a lens to body communication error. Clean the lens and body contacts (put a small amount of alcohol on a Q-tip - do not use rubbing alcohol!!!). Try again. If that doesn't work, problem may be in lens or body. Using the flat of your fingernail, push in the contacts on the body inside the mirror box to clean any tarnishing between the contacts the the circuit (they are spring loaded). Try another lens - if the other lens works, then your problem is in the first lens. If it still gives the ERR 01 code then the problem is in the body.

Has the camera been impacted or had water/liquid spillage?

your EOS 10D is displaying an "ERR 99" message.

To isolate the cause of the issue, we suggest that you do the
following:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.

Does the "ERR 99" message appear? If it does, then the camera should
be serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of
steps:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.

Does the "ERR 99" message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most
likely source of the issue. Try using a different card.

Err 99 usually means your lens contacts are dirty either on the lens itself or on the camera.

Error 99


Error 99 is an "unspecified" error. It can sometimes be due to poor communication between the lens and camera. Here are some things to try:

1) Turn the camera off. Remove the memory card. Remove the lens. Replace the lens. Turn the camera on. Replace the memory card.

2) If that doesn't fix the problem, try cleaning the contacts on the lens and camera. Turn the camera off and remove the lens. Hold the lens upside down (contacts down) and gently rub the contacts with a clean pencil eraser. Be very careful to ensure that the eraser debris falls on the table and not into the lens. Repeat with the camera body, also holding it upside down (contacts down) as you clean. Replace the lens.

If neither of these work, then you need to send the camera in to Canon for repair.

Err 99


Although you may have cleaned the lens contacts, did you clean the camera contacts? This is a bit harder but it’s doable: just hold camera so lens opening points down so no gunk falls in. Erase lightly. I used a lens cloth and dabbed at the contacts rather than blow them so as not to blow the erasings inside the camera.

4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
