Question about Maxtor OneTouch II 300 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

I have reset my computor to "out of box" status and updated software and reinstalled data, etc. Now I am creating a complete computor backup to my Maxtor One Touch ii. It has been "updating status" for about 12 hours. Will it ever finish?

Hello, I advice you abort and start all over again because it is possible that the process is hanged and not running. Abort and start all over again, this should load fine this period. Take care.

Thanks for your advice. I have stopped the program. When I restart from the Maxtor icon on my desktop, it goes back to the Retrospect Express window telling me it is updating status and 0 restore points are available.

Windows task manager tells me the program is running, but that is all the info I have.

  • Sulaimon Jimoh Olayemi May 27, 2010

    Hello,

I suggest you stop the program from the task manager

  • carmencamp May 27, 2010

    Hello,

I stopped the program from task manager, restarted my computer, and started maxtor from the desktop icon.

How long should it take to create a whole computer backup? I have a 70 GB hard drive and am using 17GB.

  • Sulaimon Jimoh Olayemi May 27, 2010

    Hello,

Depending on the speed of your system, it is the speed on your system that will determine this and at the same time if your system is virus free, it will aid the speed of the back up.

It should be less than 5-6 hours.

Are the files moving, are you seeing sign of progress on the back up, is the percentage moving?

    Take care.

  • carmencamp May 27, 2010

It is good to know I'm looking at 5-6 hours. I had no idea. I cannot tell what is happening because there is no progress bar or percentage indicator. All I have is the window, Retrospect Express for the Maxtor One Touch, Updating status...., 0 restore points available.

The blue light is solid on the Maxtor. I am presuming it's working.

    Would you agree?

Factory reset

Do not rename the backup folder created by Samsung Recovery Solution or change the directory structure in the backup. If the name or structure has changed SRS will not see your recovery point when you attempt to perform a restore.

This restores the PC to the condition it was in when the Complete Backup was made. If a Complete Backup was never made, this can still be used to restore the PC to its initial status. (Out of the Box condition)

Warning: A Complete restore erases all current files, settings, programs and other data and replaces them with the files, settings, programs and other data contained in the Complete Backup. In other words, it restores your computer to the way it was when you made the Complete Backup. Also, note that any programs installed after the Complete Backup will still need to be reinstalled.

Important:

  • If you have data that you need to save, create a Data Backup before performing a Complete Restore. With Data Backup you can save your files to an external device and then use Data Restore to load those files back onto the PC.
  • If the computer powers on, but Windows does not load, press the F4 Key at the Samsung logo when you first power on the computer; and then go to step 2.
  • If the Samsung Recovery partition has been removed from your PC, your notebook will need to be sent to the service center for reimaging.

To perform a Complete Restore, follow these steps:

  1. Open Samsung Recovery Solution 5.
  2. main_screen_cropped.jpg

  1. Once Samsung Recovery Solution 5 loads, click Restore. The Restore dialog appears.
  2. Click Complete Restore. The Restore > Complete Restore dialog appears.
  3. restore_main.jpg

  1. On the Restore > Complete Restore dialog, there is list of backups created using Complete Backup and the expected time needed to perform a restore with each backup. If no backups have been created then the Computer Initial Status backup is the only item listed. Click the backup you would like to use for this restore, and then click Next.
  2. Important: Make sure you have power connected to the PC. If power is lost during a restore, you need to start the process again from the beginning.

    select.jpg

  1. Samsung Recovery Solution 5 prompts you to restart the computer to continue. Click OK to restart the computer.
  2. Warning: If you have data on drive C that you do not want to lose, stop now and perform a Data Backup.

    restart.jpg

  1. The computer restarts and Samsung Recovery Solution 5 prompts you to click Yes to Delete all data on drive C. Click yes to proceed.
  2. A progress bar appears showing the current transfer speed, the amount of data copied, elapsed time and estimated total time to completion.
  3. After the Complete Restore is complete, Samsung Recovery Solution 5 prompts you to restart your computer. Click OK to restart.
  4. After you restart your computer, the restore process is complete.
  5. Note: You will need to perform an additional restart for Windows to apply its changes.

Reading jvm 102 error rest

Hi, you have to follow the instruction below to correct the jvm 102 error reset problem..
Step 1
Very Important!!!!

It is important to have the following software installed on your computer (at home and at work if you can):
1 - Desktop Manager - Hopefully this is already on your computer, if not click here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22

2 - Device Software for your BB - Here is the link for you to get the latest OS for your Blackberry
http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...ll_models.html

3 - Java Commander - You can download it here:
http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...d=5&linkid=452

4 - Backups - You should be creating a backup of your device data regularly, e.g., as often as you update your calendar and/or phone book, or at least once a month. If you do not already have a data backup, you are out of luck (SOL) as your data is gone.

STEP 2
The Process
From Pinstacker JTReeves:

You should be creating a backup of your device data regularly, e.g., as often as you update your calendar and/or phone book.

If or when you get a JVM Error 102/Reset message, do the following:
1. Connect your BB to the computer.
2. Run JL_Cmder
3. Choose option 5, wipe the device. This will delete all files - OS and data - from your BB. The BB screen will show JVM Error 507. This means the BB has no files installed.
4. Using Desktop Manager, reinstall your software. When you run the Application Loader, check all the available boxes.
5. When this process completes, restore your most recent backup file.
You should be back to normal, with the exception of having to reregister OTA or other 3rd party apps. Save their reg numbers in your Memo app so that you have them handy.

I want to reset it

Unlike other laptops, Acer laptops integrate a computer management utility called 'Acer eRecovery Management' to create backup of hard drive data, create restore point, reinstall applications & drivers, and reset Acer laptop to factory setting.

Step 1: Before starting your Acer laptop, ensure that there is no external storage device attached to it. Now start your laptop.

Step 2: Press 'Alt + F10' when the laptop starts booting, and wait for a moment while Windows loads the reset files.

Step 3: When 'Acer eRecovery Management' window appears, select 'Restore System from factory default' and click 'Next' to continue.

Step 4: Again click 'Next' to reset your Acer laptop. This process will erase all data from your hard disk and reset your Acer laptop to original factory settings.

Step 5: Click 'OK' in the notification window to begin the the resetting operation. Now wait while your Acer laptop is reset to factory settings.

Tips: You can also create a backup copy of your laptop data before factory reset. Simply click 'Backup' in 'Acer eRecovery Management' window.
