Hi!

What you need to do is to first reseat the memory. It could be that the memory may be having some problems. That is just one of the issues that you may be experiencing. Another is the Hard drive. So, you need to also try and reseat that. You just need to look at the bottom of your laptop and look for the hard drive and memory bay covers. You have to unscrew them remove and place them back.

If that does not work. I suggest that you have your laptop checked by an experienced hardware technician. We have a list of National Repair pros on http://www.fixya.com/repair and you could have your system checked up by one of them who is near you.

I hope this helps.

Device could not start

what device? is *********** board won't start? Or a hardware doesn't start like ram or your printer
If the problem is your motherboard check all your hardwares and connectors like this:
  1. If the motherboard won't start if you click the power button check the LED(the small light bulb on your motherboard) if its glowing. If not, check the connector of your power supply or check the power supply if its working by looking its fan if revolving.
  2. If you push the button and there's a sign of power but didn't start up that will appear on your screen check the connection of your monitor screen to your desktop computer. If it's connected, remove your RAM from the motherboard and insert it to another memory slot to check if it's broken.
  3. Last, if you push the power button and here 1 short beep but the boot screen didn't appeared from your screen check your graphic card. Remove the graphic card and re-insert it again to its graphic card slot and plug in your monitor connector to it. If it still remain that way, buy a new graphic card.

When I start up my Fujitsu Amilo Si1520, the fan starts working and nothing else happens -- screen remains blank.

Do you hear any kind of beep?
If yes, there is something wrong with your graphic adapter. If there is no beep, your MB is most probably dead

NO POWER

If you have changed the power unit and the computer is still not powering up, then it is quite likely there is a motherboard fault - probably in the power management circuitry, which expects the power_good signal from the power unit at a precise moment in the boot up process. A fault in the power management circuitry would prevent the computer from beginning its boot-up process.

Do the fans in the power unit come on when the computer is switched on? If they don't - this suggests a power unit problem. If the power unit fans do start working but the computer still doesn't boot, this suggests either a faulty or 'dry' connection (easy checked) or a motherboard fault.

If your computer 'works' but nothing is displayed, try pressing Control+Alt+Delete. If it then boots up it suggests a power unit problem. If not .. we come back to the motherboard again.

A low wattage power unit can cause the problem you describe. Every 128 Mb of Ram needs 4 watts of power. Add more for the motherboard (up to 30 watts..) then the floppy/hard drive/dvd etc .. If the power unit can't supply the necessary wattage, it won't boot. The older 250-300 watt power units aren't suitable for modern computers with XP/Vista. Ideally, you should be looking at 400 watts plus -it will tell you on the power unit.

Though to be honest, it does sound like a motherboard fault.

The only other thing that can cause a computer not to boot up (though it will begin the boot up process) are other faults ... When you switch on does it actually display anything on the screen .. and are there any 'beeps'? 1 beep indicates everything is ok .. 3 short beeps and 1 long beep indicate a memory problem (and the computer won't boot..). 8 beeps indicate a video problem (and nothing will be dislayed on your screen). Same with 9 beeps .. which indicates a bios fault - and the computer won't continue the boot process.

If you have nothing .. no power whatsover ... it comes back to the power unit/mainboard. If you're happy that the new power unit you have put in is ok ... suspect the motherboard. If you have access to any unwanted or 2nd hand motherboard ... connect that. If your computer boots up ... its the original motherboard at fault.

Alternatively, rather than replace bits and pieces at random to cure the fault, take your computer along to a computer shop. It will take them minutes to test it for you and identify the fault.

D850GB power problem

The reason that your AGP card fans are on and your drives are on is simple because those devices have power.
If the fan on the processor isn't working, then look for the wire that rut ns out of the fan and into the motherboard. Make sure that's plugged in. If it's not, then plug it in, but if it isn't this most likely means that your Heat Sink/Fan is broken. I woulnd't start your computer if the fan isn't working because your processor might overheat. One thing, if it doesn't beep, that means that it's not posting, which means start up tests are failing. Right now it seems like your processer is the problem right now, but I would take it to a repair center just to be sure.

Shutting down

hi there,
You have not mentioned much about the problem.
But it indicates a strong possibility of overheating.
Thats a safety feautre employed to prevent components getting burnt.
You may try going in bios and look for details. Some bios have information about recent failures.
also some motherboards beep next time its powered on.
also you might get a mesg on the screen just after you power on,saying that system shut down last time due to thermal heating.
hope all this helps
