Hi, My Rear Projection has blue streaks running side to side. Any Ideas?

When a blue streak of light is running through the screen of your television then the problem is most likely from your main board of your television or the t-com board.

You can open up the television with the appropriate screwdriver, then assess the capacitors to see which is faulty, and if none is swollen then the problem is not from the main board.

Then replacing the t-com board will do the job.

You need a light engine. I do not remember if your model is still under Sony's recall. You might want to call them.

Check a second source such as a dvd player or game system using different cables. If the same issue happens then the tv will need repair. However if the issue is not the same it is either cables or the original source.

Blue streaks might have been just your video connection and problem with signaling. But, blue dots is faulty light engine, aka "optical block". The engine in this could be a defective LCD array. Very expensive, a optical block is about $850. Hope it's still under warranty. You could get a rebuilt one, possibly. Need service adjustment too. Bad problem that Sony has with these kinds of sets.

The Optical Block is the problem. Call Sony at 1800-222-SONY and see if they could help with the repairs due to the cost of the repair. I estimate it would cost 1,200.00 to 1,500.00 to get the job done.

i have the same thing with mine same brand and all the problems. i was stupied and opened it and under the the circle retrackable scope is another piece u can unscrew but dont. there is liqiud in there and it will spell all over the best thing is to take it in and spent 40.00 to look at it and 160.00 for a new tube yes a tube runs about 70.00 to 160.oo for one tube. good luck

Can you describe in a little more detail what the symptoms are? Are the streaks thin lines or are they large thick swashes of Blue? Is yur video still visible? Sounds like it may be the blue convergence amps or the resistor tied into the amps. is there anyway you can post a picture of your screen distortion?

It is not a bulb. It is a picture tube. If there are thin blue lines across the entire screen, not just the edges, and the picture itself looks too blue, it means that the blue picture tube is being driven too hard. This could be because the blue screen voltage is too high, the boost voltage on the blue picture tube is too low, or the video output is leaky or shorted. If the picture has what looks like blue arcs and double images on one or more sides of the picture, it means that one of your convergence IC's has burned out and needs to be replaced. These are things that should be tested and serviced by a qualified tech, so allow an experienced tech to handle it for you.
