Question about Whirlpool WED5800S Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Timer dial will not rotate automatically.

Hello,
Our dryer is about 1.5 yrs. old, model #WED5300VWD. The timer dial
will not rotate on its own and consequently the dryer will not turn off on its own. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Mary from VA

The timer (part number 8566184) is motor driven and can actually be heard buzzes or hums when it works. The symptom clearly indicates a stuck timer motor. Remove the control panel rear cover then check to make sure the timer motor wires are connected and that the connections are snug fit. Reseat the connections several times to clean off dirt and corrosion build up in the terminals and connectors. Replace the timer should there be no issue found with the connections and the timer still does not work.

Unscrew the faulty timer from the console bracket then secure the new timer in place. Disconnect the wires from the faulty timer terminals one at a time then connect it to the corresponding terminals of the new timer. This is to prevent messing up the wires upon connecting it to the new timer. Reinstall the console rear cover then its done.

I want to replace a timer on a Whirlpool washer Model# LSN1000KQW

Good day Mr.james dant..

Whirlpool manufactures many types of washing machines. Whirlpool's top load models rely on an analog timer that controls the cycle used to wash the clothes in the washing machine, rather than a digital control board found in most front load models. The timer contains a number of moving parts and is physically turned to choose the wash cycle. Because of the high usage of the timer, it will eventually break, requiring replacement. Rather than calling a service technician to repair the timer, replace the timer yourself to save both time and money.
Instructions
1. Unplug the washing machine from the wall outlet

2. Turn the dial to the "Off" position and then unscrew the knob from the timer. To unscrew, hold the dial with one hand and turn the knob counter-clockwise.

3. Lift the dial off of the washing machine.

4. Remove the two mounting screws securing the timer into position. 5. Remove the two screws from the bottom left and right sides of the control panel, then rotate the control panel up 180 degrees.
6. Remove the wire harness from the old timer and remove the old timer
7. Connect the wire harness to the new timer.

8. Place the timer into the control panel. Hold the timer post with one hand and rotate the control panel back down. Secure the timer into place using the mounting screws that were removed from the old timer
9. Place the dial back onto the timer post and then screw the knob onto the post.
10. Plug the washer back into the wall outlet

I want to reset the timer for hours of on-off for out water heater but can't figure out how to push the little white teeth in or out. Model is 265-1.

1) Open following link to read about re-circulation systems:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-recirculation-system.html

2) Image below show typical FM1 analog timer dial with pins:
Move pins with fingernail or small tool.
To test if pins need to be moved in or out, set pins each direction and manually rotate dial clockwise and listen when pump turns on-off.
How timer operates: clock motor rotates dial continually, pins on dial move lever that turns circuit on-off.
To set current time, manually rotate dial clockwise until current time lines up with arrowhead located on inner dial.
Some timers have a selector switch: move switch to Auto, or Timer, or Timer ON. Again you can manually rotate dial and check which setting is correct.

I having troble with my t103 timer to turn the lights on manualy i try to set the timer but for some reason doesn't work what can i do ???

T103 Intermatic timer has 120Volt clock motor and can control 120V or 240V Loads.
Wiring for timer is shown on following link:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T103

Troubleshoot T103:
1) Manual override is working correctly, and it snaps crisp and clean, and Load turns on-and-off.
That means timer is basically good.

2) Next look to see if yellow dial is rotating.
If dial is not rotating, then 120Volt clock motor needs to be replaced.
Take photo of wiring and mark wires before starting.
Remove two white wires connected to screw terminals 1 and A.
Snap timer mechanism out of box, clock motor is on back of timer.
Use small star screwdriver to remove old clock motor.
Reattach white wires on terminals 1 and A, tighten screws very tight.
Reset current time: lift and rotate dial until current time lines up with silver pointer.
Grainger sells 125V clock motor:
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/INTERMATIC-Time-Clock-Motor-1PNK1?Pid=search

3) If dial is rotating, but gets stuck at certain times, or runs slow, then replace clock motor.

4) If dial is rotating, and trippers are attached to dial, but timer does not turn ON, then trippers are worn down and need to be replaced.
Grainger sells the T103 trippers
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/INTERMATIC-Timer-Tripper-2E054?Pid=search

5) How Intermatic mechanical timers work:
Dial with ON-OFF trippers is rotated by clock motor.
Trippers on dial contact ON-OFF lever.
ON tripper pushes lever one direction.
OFF tripper pushes lever opposite direction.
Lever moves electrical contacts on back of timer that turn Load ON-OFF.
Manual override lever clicks back and forth with each ON-OFF action.

I have a gas dryer 1.5 yrs old and the timer is not working on any cycle. model MGDC700VW

Sounds like the little electric motor that moves the timer dial is defective, this is the most common cause.

Hello I lost my instructions for theej351c, can you help?

1. Move control lever to OFF-CLEAR for at least 5 seconds; red indicator light will go
off, and all previous time settings will be cleared from memory. (If timer fails to set, leave in off
position for 15 minutes.)
2. Move lever to ON. RED INDICATOR will start FLASHING.
3. Check a clock; then rotate time dial clockwise at least one click, stopping at the half
hour nearest to present time. NOTE: When rotating time dial, do NOT accidentally PRESS at
the same time. (While rotating dial, keep pressure, pulling out on the dial to avoid accidentally
setting an incorrect time.)
4. Press pushbutton once to enter present time. RED INDICATOR will go OFF, present
time has now been recorded.
5. Rotate time dial clockwise to desired ON time; RED light will PULSE momentarily
with each click.
6. Press pushbutton to enter ON time; controlled light(s) will turn on.
7. Rotate dial to desired OFF time.
8. Press pushbutton to enter OFF time; controlled light(s) will now be off.
9. Repeat Steps 5-8 for each addition ON/OFF period.
10. Continue to rotate time dial for at least 24 hours from the first ON time to complete
this program, at which time the RED INDICATOR light will come ON and stay ON,
indicating timer is in AUTOMATIC mode. NOTE: Dial does not rotate automatically
after setting to indicate time of day.

The dryer drys but the dial does not move and....

HI. the timer control module is experiencing difficulties. the advancement of the timer dial is crucial, and it must rotate in order to initiate proper cycle sequence. The timer motor is the culprit in this case, and the timer will need to be replaced.

Replacing the timer will fix this issue.
