You need to remove the screw from the center of the agitator and pull up on the agitator from the bottom , to remove it . Seperate the 2 piece agitator , and replace the 4 agitator " dogs " . Reasemble . The " dogs " lets the top section of the agitator only move in 1 direction causing the clothes to " tumble " . OR , take the complete agitator to a parts house and they will install them for you .

My kenmore 70 series will not agitate. It rocks back and forth but center doesn't move. Now if i put my hand on the top of it and press it down it does just fine. Is there a gear that may be broke in the...

Not a gear, Four peices of plastic.  They are about $2 and really easy to replace.  Take the cover off of the top of the adgitator with a flathead screwdriver, and there will be a bolt underneath it.  Take the adgitator off, and seperate the two halves.  There are four pieces of plastic known  as dogears because of their shape.  Replace those and it will work

    Adgitator removal

    Just follow these steps:

    1. Remove the center dispenser from the top of the agitator. It should just pop off.
    2. Locate the white plastic cap underneath and pull straight up to remove.
    3. Locate the agitator bolt underneath and remove using a socket and ratchet (can't remember the size). Hold the agitator still with one hand in order to loosen the bolt.
    4. With the bolt removed, grasp the agitator by the bottom flanges and pull straight up. It should lift off the center post.

NOTE: Sometimes these agitators will stick due to years of detergent accumulation. You may have to wobble it back and forth to get it loose.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

    Loose replacement blade

I completely removed the blade and put it back on, tightening the locknut, and now it works perfectly. The blade has not come loose and have used the machine for the last 3 months. The only thing I can think of is that somehow I didn't have the blade correctly installed in the first place, although it didn't wobble or anything.
