Question about IO Magic Corporation DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner

I/O Magic External DVD Burner not working?

I bought an I/O Magic External DVD Burner to copy DVD's and to consolidate family DVD's of Marin onto one DVD. My computer is a 2005 Dell Deminsion 3000. It's Windows based, operating Windows XP. It has a CD Playe/ Burner and read only DVD drive; however it didn't have the capability to copy DVD's. Now I want that capability and called Dell who sold me this product from one of their trusted vendors, I/O Magic Company.

So I get the thing about five months a go. I try it out. It doesn't work. I call the manufacturerer and run through troubleshooting where they determine I have a defective drive. They ask me to box it up and they will at no cost replace it. I think good right.

I get in the mail about three weeks ago and barely now am installing it and low and behold - SAME PROBLEM. My PC isn't recognizing it. I hear the 'bing' and see on my screen it has detected it, but when I pull up 'My Computer' you don't see it?

The DVD driver came with no CD for installing new drivers and it appears to be a simple plug and play? Are there drivers out there somewhere I need to download? I/O Magic isn't telling me anything?

Help? Problems? I'm getting frustrated with I/O Magic company.

You bet! You were right on the money. Plugged in a new USB 2.0 NIC card in the back, plugged in the external DVD Burner and that fixed it. Now I just have to get the right software. Thanks for the help!

"2005 Dell Dimension 3000" (sic) Your PC has not got the correct USB Port version, you only have a USB 1.1, NOW your device ONLY uses USB 2. It's that simple. No matter what, anyone says, or whatever you do, apart from getting a USB 2 USB plug in card, you can not make it work. You simply cannot transfer the data over a USDB 1.1, link fast enough to work correctly, so it won't function.

I will pick up a USB 2.0 tomorrow and see if that works? Please stay with me till I can confirm this is the fix.

    Thanks - Chris

Burner continues to burn only a portion of the DVD

Some DVDs are dual layer, some are double sided, some are double sided and dual layer. You must be sure you are using the correct media and that your drive can program it. Most store-bought DVD movies are dual layer, and if you try to copy them onto a regular DVD, then you will only copy about half of the movie.

My lap top already has a dvd burner that is playing up, I've bought a second hand dvd burner without an installation cd, how can I still activate the external burner?

You can still use and activate your external burner. Most external DVD burner drive is USB right? So you just plug in the usb plug of your burner in your laptop and it will automatically detected by the system and install the neccessary driver for it to work properly. If you do have an existing burner software in your laptop then you can also use it for burning DVD's and CD's to your external burner but if you don't have any, then install a burning software like NERO or any. Hope this could help you. Please don't forget to rate me..:-) Thanks..

I just bought a Magnavox ZV450MW8A DVD/VCR Recorder. It has recording capabilities on both the DVD and VCR components but can you tell me if I can use it to record FROM the VCR directly onto the DVD? This...

Yes, you can, I have this unit and have actually copied a dvd to a vhs and then copied back to a dvd as I wanted a dvd copy to give a friend. The directions in the book are really quite simple. They tell you how to set the vhs to the spot where you want to start copying, etc.

I have not yet tried copying my family vhs tapes, but don't see a problem, just a big project. Good luck.

you have to check if your MAC (with OSX 10.3) supports such device (imation 16x external dvd burner). if so, well look for the driver of the imation dvd burner in the internet.

you could search for it by typing in on google or any other search engine and look for the driver with is for MAC (OSX 10.3).
