Question about Bosch 24 in. SHU53 Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

Won't progress out of Cycle 1

It washes all the way to Cycle 1 and then it just keeps going, and going never getting to Clean. It can run for 2 hours if I let it and still doesn't signal Clean.
I tried changing from Econ to Reg wash but that make any difference. I filled the soap and rinse agent cup, also.
The local repairman really is unfamilar with Bosch. We live 3 hours from where the machine is located and the nearest Bosch repair is 2 hours away. The model number has worn off. I believe that it is a SHU5300. Help! I don't want to buy another machine. I was told to try to reset it by pressing power, holding the second and fourth button, wait 10 seconds to see it that did it. Then they said if that didn't work to get a new machine. I got this info from calling the Bosch 800 number.

Hello Carol, welcome to "fixya". I can understand your frustration but I have a solution, whether it is one you can benefit from I can only hope, since there doesn't appear to be a local tech proficient with B/S/H/ products, it's going to depend on how handy you or someone close to you can be. ( B/S/H/ is the company responsible for Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau and Siemens ) The reason your dishwasher is displaying a "1" is the control has detected a heating error. The error code is displayed by the number "1". Here`s the most likely reason why it has detected the error... But first I need to say I think it's crazy you'd be advised to consider buying a new dishwasher, for an experienced tech ( or at least on who specializes in "hi-end" product ) it is a pretty easy repair. The issue with your Bosch dishwasher likely lye`s within`the electronic timer/control, specifically the heater relay solder joint. ( a faulty flow switch, ntc or heater can also cause this, but not very probable ). This is why it runs forever once the error is detected by the control and the # 1 is displayed, unless interupted via pressing the two buttons for "cancel". To repair your unit It will require you to remove the control from the unit and then remove the control from it`s plastic housing and look for a burnt solder contact on the printed circuit board. This will be one of the pins from the heater relay, hence the unit sit`s at "1" ( because it can`t heat to advance or until canceled ) trying to heat the water. **Further to this, if you or someone you know is proficient at soldering, a lot of times it can be remedied by simply repairing the solder...although Bosch recommend`s replacing the control and I don`t pretend to speak on there behalf nor do I profess to know better. This is just my experience (it work`s) and my opinion (why buy new if one can repair ?)** **Please disconnect the power before attempting any service to the dishwasher. If you do not feel comfortable attempting this service, call a local pro, preferably one familiar with Bosch/Thermador/Gaggenau, to service your machine.** Hope this answer`s your question's, let me know if I can assist you further. Thank`s for visiting "fixya" for your repair inquiries. Please take a moment and rate this solution to it's helpfulness to you and leave a testimony if you're satisfied. Good luck. macmarkus :)

Siemens washing machine keeps washing

Hi Linda Bailey,

If it keeps washing it could be that it is unable to progress to the Drain or Spin cycle. The likely culprit could be the Drain Pump Filter. To clean the Drain pump filter:

1) Plug the appliance out.
2) Open the small compartment below the door (Either Right or left hand corner) You will see a small pipe and a circular lid with a handle.
3) Drain the water by using the small pipe (Get a bowl for the water!), take of the cap of the hose or use the tap on the pipe on some models.
4) Once all the water is drained, open up the cap (Again.. Keep the bowl close by for spillage) by turning it anti-clockwise. Once off, clean the filter which is found on the cap.
5) stick your fingers into the now open compartment, be sure to clean out any obstructions, and feel if the impeller inside can turn freely.

THATS it! Now re-insert the cap, and close the pipe if open. Plug your machine in and viola!

It should solve your problem.

If not, let me know.

Kind Regards

LG dishwasher model LDF6920WW 1 1/2 years old approximately. Suddenly stops a minute or so into cycle (it drains remaining water and fills with new water then get LE error). When I open the door at the...

The manufacturer has assigned this error or fault code to indicate a problem with the water circulation pump motor. Turn the appliance off for 30 minutes to allow it to cool. Then, restart the cycle. If the error code returns check the wiring to the pump motor. Also, if the wash impeller is broken this error can appear. If the impeller and wire harness check out, and the code keeps returning, you will probably need to replace the pump and motor assembly.

The dishwasher has been running for 3 hours and seems to be stuck on 1 minute left. Upon opening, there was sudsy water remaining in the bottom, but the dishes looked clean. The washer just won't go to...

SHU 53 MODELS To start test program, press and hold both SCRUB WASH and DELICATE/ECONO program buttons, then turn unit on by pressing ON/OFF button. Initially, control module version # will be displayed (e.g./ ?21? = version 1 with jumper). When wash program buttons are released, lights above them will flash. To end test program, press ON/OFF button. To check each program indicator light, press its button. To check Cycle Countdown display, Refill Rinse Agent light and REGULAR WASH light, press REGULAR WASH button (press Delay Start button to test Cycle Countdown display alone). Cycle Countdown display will show ?88″ when REGULAR WASH button is pressed and ?8h? when Delay Start button is pressed. To start testing, press both the SCRUB WASH and DELICATE/ECONO buttons a second time. When testing has ended, Cycle Countdown display will show a fault using codes below. If more than one fault occurs, code numbers will be added together, (e.g./ ?6? = faults 2 + 4). 0 = No faults detected 2 = Heating fault 8 = NTC (temperature sensor) fault 1 = Aqua Sensor (?Sensotronic?) fault 4 = Filling fault F = Filling fault (display occurs during wash, not test) To check for heater, high limit or flow switch problems, start testing until heating starts. Using a meter with a current coil, measure current going into dishwasher. If current is ~ 11 A, then heater, high limit and flow switch are OK. If current stays at ~ 1.5-2 A, then heater, high limit or flow switch are faulty. If water level switch (f1) has failed (opened), display will show fault code ?4″ and unit will continually fill and drain where testing won?t be completed. If flow switch (e5) has failed (opened), display will show ?0″, water won?t heat (to 150?F) and water won?t stop circulating. If NTC probe (f2/f4) has failed (opened), display will show fault code ?8″ immediately and testing will end shortly after water has started circulating.

Doesnt go through programs

sounds like you have a bad timer or lid switch. does it finish a cycle but not advance or does it just keep washing or does it wash then stop and get stuck? if it just keeps doing one cycle like wash wash wash you would have a bad timer. if it washes then stops and gets stuck you have a bad lid switch. But then again if you had a bad lid switch it would never spin. What is the brand name of this washer?

Odor

IMPORTANT: Read thoroughly. DO NOT add detergent or other laundry products to this cycle.
1. Remove all items from the washer.
2. Open the dispenser drawer and 2/3 cup (160 mL) of liquid chlorine bleach to the bleach compartment. DO NOT use more than 2/3 cup (160mL) of bleach per cycle as this will lead to product damage.
3. Close the washer door and dispenser drawer.
4. Select the Clean Washer cycle or a full wash cotton 104 F wash (40 C). DO NOT use any higher temperature as this will cause unnecessary fumes
5. Press Start and allow cycle to complete.
6. If the bad odour persists, repeat the procedure 1 or 2 more times. This may be necessary if this is the first time you have run this cycle.
7. After the cycle is complete, leave the door open slightly to allow ventilation and drying of the washer interior.
8. Repeat the cleaning procedure monthly.
To maintain the washer freshness:
1. Use only HE High Efficiency detergent.
2. Leave the door open after each cycle to for better ventilation and drying of the washer interior.
3. Use warm / hot water in your machine unless the fabric you are washing requires cold.
4. Use the correct amount of fabric softener.
5. If your laundry room is damp, use a dehumidifier.
6. Clean the door seal of visible residue.

Your problem is either in the control board or the water level switch.  The computer can't tell if the water has drained or the control board is stuck in the 8 minute drain cycle.  Recommend pulling the plug and wait 5 minutes to reset the computer.  If the problem persists, it will require an LG experienced tech to see what's going on.
