Question about Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Calculator

1 Answer

Problem with Driver

When plugging my TI - 84 silver edition into my computer and trying to use TI Connect, my computer will not recognize my calculator. It recognizes it as a device, but not as a TI. I think it's a problem with the driver. I tried reinstalling the driver, and the device manager promps me to have it search the internet for drivers, or to search the computer for the driver. I tried both options, and neither worked. My opperating system is Windows Vista Home Edition, which is supposed to be compatible with TI Connect. I have TI connect installed.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. Did you check TI's website? There might be an updated driver you can use. Also, is the calculator on when you plug it into the computer?

Have you tried 2nd then down arrow. This adjusts the brightness of the screen. You may need to repeat it a few times (you must release the 2nd key, you cannot just hold it down and type the down arrow many times).

Installing

Try to find a classmate who has the same calculator (TI84 Plus or TI84 Plus Silver Edition) and effect a transfer of the OS from the classmate's calculator using an IO cable.
Alternatively, download the new version of TI Connect (version 4.) and install it on your computer. Then connect your calculator to the computer through the USB cable. When it recognizes the calculator click the update button in TI Connect interface and select update OS. Good luck.

Get fresh batteries. Install the TI connect software on your computer, Connect your calculator to the computer and your computer to the Internet. Run the TI Connect software. Click the Updates button. See screen capture.
If calculator is recognized by the computer you may be able to reinstall the system.

TI connect not working

Even if you cannot connect it to the computer you can still transfer applications from a working calculator.

Here is a copy of a post I wrote to answer your question.

If you have a USB SilverLink cable, use it to connect the calculator though the I/O (round) port.
If you do not have a USB SilverLink cable, you can use the mini USB to USB Direct cable but you will have to install the correct driver for it.

I do not know what computer operating system you are running and I use Windows XP so I will describe the installation procedure for Windows XP SP3.

Install TI connect 1.6 for Windows; if your system is Vista you must install a patch available on the TI website, at the same page where you find TI Connect.

After you install TI Connect, connect you calculator to the computer with the mini USB standard USB Direct cable. Windows will detect the calculator and will try to install the drivers. You will have something that is similar to what is on the three screen captures I am inserting in the post. On the last screen, choose the TI Educational Handheld device and click next.

When Windows asks to stop installation, click continue anyway

After the installation, click finish.

Device manager will show you something like what is on next screen (TI Educational Handheld device)

Run TI Connect to verify that the calculator is recognized. Connect your computer to the Internet and click the Updates Button on the TI Connect tool bar.

Many Problems with TI-84 Plus SE

I believe that you created your problems. You have TI connect, Use it. If you feel that you have the soul of a hacker then TILP is for you.
If you have a TI USB Silver link or a mini USB to Standard USB Direct cables you need TI Connect 1.6 not GraphLink (for Windows).

YOU MUST uninstall ALL TILP and TILP2 SOFTWARE, then install TI Connect 1.6
In what follows, I am including a copy of an earlier post of mine that may help you install the correct drivers

If you have a USB SilverLink cable, use it to connect the calculator though the I/O (round) port.
If you do not have a USB SilverLink cable, you can use the mini USB to USB Direct cable but you will have to install the correct driver for it.

I have a TI 84 plus silver edition. Won't turn

The problem may be due a screen that is too light to see anything on it. Adjust the screen darkness.
  1. Press [2nd] key and release it.
  2. Press and HOLD the [UpArrow] to draken screen.
  3. Release the [UpArrow] when screen is dark enough.
You can also connect it to the computer to see if TI Connect finds it. If it does, update the OS to version 2.53MP.

You change the backup battery if the calculator tells you RAM CLEARED each time you turn it ON.
