Question about Epson Stylus R340 InkJet Photo Printer

1 Answer

I'm printing black and white photos to an R340. The photos are printed from Photoshop CS3 and Qimage. In both cases, I do not get a true black and white print as it has a sort of blueish hue to it not matching what I see on the screen. Have any idea how to get the R340 to actually print in Black and White? Thanks.

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!

Although my printer does not have a 'color' tab, I was able to find Black Ink Only and that got the ball rolling. Prints look great!. Thanks again.

Please follow these steps to solve your problem, Click on Start - Printers and Faxes - right Click on the Printer Icon (in your case Hp R340) - Printing Preference - On the printer settings dialog box click on the "Color" tab as shown below - I'm printing black and white photos to an R340. - 11eee83.jpg
Select Print in Greyscale and again select "Black Ink Only" from the drop down lists. Click "Apply" and then "Ok". If you are printing only some documents with this document and you don't want it to make the default, you can do this from the document printing settings. After giving the print command, you can do this by clicking the "Printer Properties" and follow the same instructions above. I was preparing the image so it took a little time. Hope you can understand my instructions. Good luck.

I don't know what you mean by 'set for color output', but be careful there is a way to set the printer's 'preferences' through the PS PRINT DIALOG BOX... those settings can be different than your regular printer settings. Look for it when accepting the send to printer parameters.

Linking photoshop and canon MP700 for best quality photos

If your pictures are shot at the highest setting on your camera, you should not have to do anything in Photoshop.

When you go to print make sure the print setting on the printer are set to the highest level.

Epson Stylus Photo R340 Faces in photo are printing day-glo green

Possible printhead or driver issue.
Are you using Adobe photoshop? Please try to print also using a different application to isolate the issue.
Make sure that you are using correct epson cartridges.
Please print a nozzle check pattern. If you see gaps, missing colors or missing lines on the pattern, clean the printhead using the driver.
If the nozzle check pattern printed out successfully, please trash and re-install the drivers. The driver is available on epson.com

Printing black and white photos from digitally taken colour photos

Hi Pat,

First you will have to check the Nozzle of your printer. To do this, press the setup button and select Nozzle Check. Use a plain paper to do this. Press Ok after that. It will print out a pattern for each color. Make sure that the lines are connected to each other specially for black since that you are printing a black and white photo. Lines going across is on a stair case pattern and should be connected to each other. Proceed with cleaning cycle if needed.

You can do a cleaning cycle using your printer of the computer. You can skip this if you have a good Nozzle check.

Using printer:
Press setup then select head cleaning.

Using computer.
Go to utility of the printer and find maintenance. Click on the head cleaning button.

Once that the nozzle are fine, you can now try printing. I strongly suggest that you use other application first instead of Adobe Photoshop. Since that Photoshop uses color management, it can be that the settings are incorrect. Save first the picture that you opened in Photoshop. You can save it on your desktop to easily locate the file. Make sure that the file is in jpeg format. Now to isolate the issue if it is cause by a software or not, try the standard application for your O.S.

Smaple Application:
Windows O.S. : Windows Picture and Fa Viewer
- right click on the file and select open with.
- select windows picture and fax viewer.
- folow the on screen instuctions.
Note: If you are now on the window on what pinter to use. Make sure that you set the option for printers under preferences to print in gray scale or black only. Select also the correct paper type.
- Proceed with printing.

Mac OSX: Preview or Iphoto
- open the picture under one of the application.
- click file then print.
- Make sure printer is selected.
- underneath the print option, you will have to go to print setting.
- find the option that says color then select black.
- select the appropriate settings for paper.
- the click on print.

Now see if it did print out corectly. If it did, it means that the appplication is the one causing this. If you are familiar with the color manage features of the application Photoshop. Let Photoshop handles the color. After getting to the widow what printer to use, to the the preferences of the printer and select the correct paper type. You will have to find the color management of the printer.

For Windows, It under the advance option under the main tab. Select off no color adjustment.
For Mac instead of going to print setting, find color manage and turn it off. Select off no color adjustment.

Then try printing.

Regarding your other question, If the printer is producing excess inks on your print out when ot comes to black printing and color printing, that pad needs replacement.

It sounds like a buffer overun problem. Try reducing the resolution of your graphics. Have you contacted Adobe? You have one year free technical support with the software, I believe.

Trouble printing to photo paper

The paper you print on is not relevant. What happens is the green tint is the actual printer delivering all the colours to give a 'composite' black. On shiny photo paper this is emphasized where as on plain paper the colour is absorbed and shows as intended. So what can you do? Move away from black and go for a tint such as sepia.
