As a general rule, the problem you are having is the panel failing.
A replacement panel would far exceed the cost of a new screen.
Best bet is to sell it off on eBay as a faulty unit and put the money towards another monitor.
You would be surprised at what people will pay for a faulty LCD so they can try and fix it.

Sorry for the bad news, but it may save your sanity trying to get it fixed.

Sorry, email servers are not working on the FixYa site so I never seen the response.

If it's fading out to black, then the panel is just about as far gone as it will get. The final phase is a pure white screen when you turn it on.

Replace the panel and you will have a good monitor again.

There's a green line going down vertically on the monitor screen all the time

a resitor line has failed and you cannot fix it, once they fail thats it ,its there for good. Its same as dead pixels on a monitor, except this is a whole line of pixels, if you hit the area above the line hard it will probably go away but will come back sometime, learn to live with it or buy a new monitor.

Black screen with vertical lines through it

Could be faulty graphics chip or faulty screen. If you can hook up external monitor and picture is fine then probably faulty screen. If external monitor shows same problem the faulty graphics chip. Take to repair shop and let them have a look.

Occasional colored vertical lines on the screen at startup

base on our experience.... you are looking at a possible screen problem. Is it serious? yes as the screen replacement costs almost half of the total cost of the laptop.

but no harm trying this

1. remove the screws from the LCD bezel, remove the screen
2. detach the cable and reinsert them all both the inverter and the flex cable.

inverter is the circuit usually located at the bottom of the screen and the flex cable is the ribbon that runs from the laptop to the back of the lcd.

reseat them and see if your display improves
