200gb drive registers as 2000gb when I try to format
I've been trying to format this drive and it keeps reading as 2000gb instead of 200gb. Has anyone else ever seen this before? Is there a solution?

I can't get the drive to format. It keeps coming up as "Windows unable to complete format". I can't store anything on it because it keeps coming up as an unformated drive. Catch 22. I think I'll try another computer. ThanksI can't get the drive to format. It keeps coming up as

Re: 200gb drive registers as 2000gb when I try to format
Why not either rename this drive at the correct size or format and partion etc,
If the drive shows 2000GB then why not put some stuff on it say 300GB and if its a 200GB it will give you a FULL message once it reaches 200GB

At what point is it asking for a password? Has the computer formatted the hard drive yet? It sounds like you might be going in to Recovery Console instead of installing a fresh copy of Windows.
What you want to do is press Enter at the first screen, agree to the license, and then format your hard drive. After that, it will go through the installation without asking for a password. Remember - you'll lose all your data when you format.
check your bios if the disk is recognized as 500gb first. if it is not recognized, update your motherboard bios. most updates are available in their manufacturers site.
Pre 1999 machine with Award BIOS?
If so, this is because when they designed your computer, they didn't imagine 80 GB drives were a realistic prospect.
Suggest you download DiskWizard from Seagate's website and use that instead of Windows to format the disk. Hopefully this will be enough to let you see the full capacity of the disk.
