Question about Refrigerators

The fridge is only getting down to -1.8degrees centigrade on 240v. On gas it gets down to minus 10degrees centigrade. I put a new 240v thermostat but no difference. The outside temp is about 20 degrees centigrade. Any ideas

Hi,

The problem would most likely be with the heat element itself.

The only way to tell for sure would be to take a voltage reading at the heat element and a current reading. If you are getting the right voltage to the element and the current draw is lower than the rating then the element is weak and would need replaced.

If the voltage is lower than 240 volts then you would have to trace down the wiring to determine where the voltage is being lost.

But this issue would most likely be the heat element itself.

Changing the thermostat was not a solution for the problem. The temp in the fridge is not dropping because of clogging in circuitry. In a layman's way to remove the clogging we go with heating the copper tubing in which gas flows by venting the gas with a **** by cutting at the last edge of the tube. Holding the cut while the fridge is kept on so that the compressor works up and the pressure is built in the tube while holding the cut with the thumb and heating the tube so that the clog could melt up and once we remove the thumb the alian object ie clogging could vent out the cut and also heating the chillers bottom if any clog build up in chiller compartment.

My ice maker not making ice and the freezer temp is 25 degrees , not zero

If your freezer is in Centigrade Sheila, it should be at minus 18' Centigrade. If it is in Fahrenheit, it should be at 0'F, as that is minus 18'C.

25'F is only 7' under freezing point, which leads me to believe that either your condenser coils are full of fluff, or you need the gas topping up.

Not making ice is a different kettle of fish and you need a service engineer.

GE Profile Brita Fridge. Have setting down as low as possible and crisper foods continue to freeze. How can I fix that?

You need an internal digital thermometer to see if 1 is the coldest or the hottest. If you turn it to 6 and the temperature remains the same, the thermostat is faulty.

If 1 is the warmest and it continues to freeze crisper foods like lettuce, you need a new thermostat. Your ideal temperature is between 3 and 4' Centigrade at the coldest part, usually above the bottom shelf.

What temp should my admiral freezer be at it go,s from warmer to colder 1 to 10?

You need to put a freezer thermometer inside the cabinet.

It should be minus 18 Centigrade or 0 degrees Fahrenheit.

Start off at 5 on your dial and adjust daily until you reach -18/0

You can pick these up at Home Depot or Houseware stores.

Have a fridge freezer trf295 no model indicated. Need to get my hand on a manual. One problem is that the plug for the fridge is behind it don't know what setting fridge or freezer should be at ???

It looks like it might be a badged Sears Special.

The dials in fridges usually go from zero (defrost) to 9. Ideally you want the setting between 4 and 6. Buy yourself two fridge thermometers, they are cheap. Your freezer needs to be minus 16 - minus 18' Centigrade. Your fridge needs to be 2 - 4'C. The thermometers have a green area showing the range. Here is an example.

What is the normal temperature to set the fridge and freezer

  • A frigidaire should have a temperature of between thirtyseven degrees farenheit (three degrees centigrade) and forty degrees farenheit (five degrees centigrade). Any higher and the food will go off, any lower and you'll lose nutrients and fresh food can be ruined.
  • The ideal freezer temperature is zero degrees farenheit (negative eighteen degrees centigrade) which will store food safely and stop bacteria forming
  • It's a good idea to buy a fridge thermometer and check the temperature if you are not sure it the thermostat is working efficiently
  • If you adjust the thermostat, it generally will take twentyfour hours to adjust the temperature

Freezer 20 deg --fridge 55 deg fridge not cooling

Check compressor working and also with correct pressure. Keep arm in condenser coil. If you feel warm, check freezer to hear slight whistling sound. If not short of gas or gas leak. If warm and no whistling sound means, system chocked. Release all gas and flush out system. Vacuum and do gas charging. Thermostat setting must be 3 to 5 degree Centigrade.(37*F to 41*F). Thanks.

Chescold caravan fridge 3 way fridge, (out on the bench not in a van) works well on 240V but not on gas. Pilot looks good, fridge is level, I have tried inverting the fridge as suggested. No luck. I can't...

Yep same prob as my Chescold model RC1180. I pulled the entire gas circuit apart as the fridge works well on 240v haven`t yet sussed the 12v.
I suspected the thermostat ( on the gas side ) there is a tiny jet on the side of the aluminium block at the base of the electric thermostat, also another springloaded 'valve' at the bottom of the aluminium block. The ' valve' is actuated by the thermostat Dial, as it screws a pin down onto a plate which departs from an O' Ring seal letting gas into the chamber where the tiny Jet is seated. This tiny Jet meters the gas to the Pilot burner.
Anyway ' That' wasn`t the problem! lol
The Problem was a 'Clogged Pilot flame Jet'
Fix..... I stripped as piece of fine electrical wire 12v and cleaned the jet out. It is a # 26.
The Jet itself looks like it has been 'Stamped' out rather than Drilled, this may account for some fridges working better on gas than others as there seem s to be some distortion on the Jet Orifice. I will buy a new Jet and a #26 drill and replace the original one.
I am just testing the fridge on Gas now...going like a Trojan... bonus is ive got a little 3 sausage hot plate over the Gas exhaust and am cooking dinner while the beer is getting colder !
