Question about Briggs & Stratton Briggs Stratton Intek V - Twin Vertical Ohv Engine with Electric Start 22 Hp, 1" X 3 5/32" Shaft, ModelNo. 44K777 - 0027 - E1

Open Question

Engine keeps shutting down.

I have a 16 hp Briggs & Stratton engine that keeps shutting down after approx 15 - 20 minutes of running. It will restart the first couple of times and resume running but after it shuts off about 4 times, I have to let it sit for 5 - 10 minutes before it will start and stay running. I have cleaned the carb and replaced the fuel filter but it did not help. It seems like when it gets hot, it almost seems like its out of fuel. Could this be vapor lock or could it be and electrical problem that when it heats up, the coil might not be producing spark? Please help, any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

Believe it or not, I had this same thing happening on our L120 John Deere. Turned out to be a plugged gas cap vent! At first I couldn't believe it but i resolved it with my air compressor. Now I always make sure the vent is clean and have had no problems since.

How do you replace a condenser on a 16 hp Briggs and Stratton v-twin model-303777...type 1142-E1. Note:Engine runs fine for approx 30 min(until it heats up) and then shuts off & will not restart until...

The condensor is not the problem for they go bad upon not hold a charge. When the engine heats up and the engines dies out the problem may lay in the magnito's frame mounting from swelling from the heat, a loose mounting bolt(s). Or a Magnito that is ready to go out completely

I have a potable generator that will not turn off.it's a 16.5 briggs vanguard v-twin motor.i replaced the coils and the diode wiring assembly.i fill the diode assembly might be backwards.is that possible?

Are you saying the engine will not turn off? The engine shut down uses a ground on the ignition circuit to shut down. This kills the circuit that provides the spark for the engine to run. See if you can trace the circuit for the shut down and check the ground connection.
