I suggest to try with the power supply and the actual fuses ..cause most of the time the fuses are the first that blows ..and in some cases the transformer's ac to dc bridge ..but in this cases it should blink and have a buzz on the sound..(when the transformers dc bridge ..os out (the capacitor gone) it do not makes the ac current into dc kind ...so ...there have to be the issue ..if it have no power at all check the fuse ..and after that see if the transformer have out current..and what kind..

I have checked all of the fuses. They are good. I tried simple procedures and now need a qualified tech to help me troubleshoot at component level. there is no buzzing of any sort. The power cord is good. When I plug the unit in I get nothing, no clicks, no lights, nothing.

In this case the transformer (power supply ) is out ..cause the board has more than one circuit and there is no way to not power something ...but in case the power supply is dead....just open it ..and see if at the point where it is in contact with the board..( point where the power supply contact the board..the power in ) it has any voltage ...if not ...just change the transformer( power supply )..

Ok, got that. I have a standby transformer. is that what you are talking about or the audio amp transformer. I would think it would be the standby transformer. it's right there on the board that the power cord plugs into.

exactly ...the main power one and the power cord should be sticking into it ..if this one is dead there is no power at all ..and this is exactly what you have ...

even if you have power out of it ...in may be the capacitor that makes is into dc current ..so if you have the skill and the tool measure them and see if it is dead ..and change it with a similar one ...look at the schematic ...

Ok, so the standby transformer (smaller and the power cord goes to it) or the Power Amp Transformer (really big)

  • Catalin Turcu
    Catalin Turcu May 27, 2010

chack them both ..cause the cord gets into the first one ..but the line is common ..just plug it ..and see which one has power at the exit end..check first the stand by one ...cause it powers the switch on for the other one ...if it is OK ..than the other is to blame ...but I suspect that the stand by one is out ..cause the other has the fuse and the fuse is the first one to blow..

Ok, one more simple question. The 5.6v standby should be DC right. Sorry, It's been a while since I messed around with these things. If so, i get nothing. on the AC side I get 20 something, but that's not right schematic says 5.6V

This is the last question. sorry.

it should be like in the schematic 6 V continuous (dc) like the battery current ..in this case measure the redressing bridge's condenser and see if it is dead..it should be near by the transformer and has the function to make it dc from ac ..

Or just change it all if you have one with the bridge and all I mentioned cause you may change t and have the same problem if you do not change the bridge ....Im not sure if this is the tech term in English for it ..sorry Im thinking in my language and try to translate ....but you know what Im talking about if you know how a transformer is functioning ...it reducing the voltage to the right one ...and the bridge has a capacitor that makes it from ac into dc ..something like that ..and that condenser is the key and the one is burning out often in this cases.....I just mentioned to be aware of teh issue and change it with all the stuff if you do ...or measure and see if that part is out ..look what its written on it and but a new one ..

I just want to know if I can run a turntable through this unit

You can connect some turntables to the VSX-54TX. The turntable needs to have a built-in phono equalizer; then you can connect it to the Line In connection. See page 26 of the manual for the details. The manual is available on the Pioneer product page: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/AV-Receivers/Elite+Receivers/VSX-54TX in the Manuals & Brochures section. The current direct link to the manual is http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pio/pe/images/portal/cit_11221/128163968VSX-54TX%20OPERATING%20INSTRUCTIONS.pdf .

I hope this helps. If you post a comment with the model of the turntable, I may be able to help identify if it has the built-in equalizer.

All 5 speaker outs have 12.6V of DC power. How to fix?

Check for Ground Lines

It could be anywhere from a loose/missing screw , cold solder joint on J13

What important is that the Speaker Negative Terminal is directly

connected to the secondary center-tapped terminal of the transformer

and the chassis of the amplifier.

I had a problem recently after a power outage where both my receiver and an external amp would not power up until I unplugged them from the wall for a moment first.

Have you checked within the set, the fuse and if the standby circuit is working. thre could be a failure of this sub votage which is required for the switch on of the main power. If you do not have any standby indication you must check this section, however if you arre getting the standby you would have a failed output or a shorting that is triggering the error amp to swtich off. If you are familiar with the circuits you can check but I would suggest that since you will need more experience to look into the main board for tracing the fault. In such case check for the service centre nearest to the place you are in using a google search for Pioneer - Audio systems- sevice. Helpful I hope. Good day.

No TV sound, only DVD and CD players

Check your tv settings may need to change from speaker out to line out.

Check the tv input on the receiver, put the cd or dvd cables into the tv input. If you get audio the receiver is fine. No audio check the receiver settings.
