Check your SQUELCH setting - that will make the 'hiss' sound if it is turned too far or bumped.

don't hit any more bumps. The problem could be in several areas. I'm going to say that you may have a loose capacitor inside If I had the radio here I could fix it but because the problem may be so spread it could be a lot of things Are you a truck driver? If you are take it to a CB shop at one of the many truck stops and see if they can fix it for you .

Loud speaker static when the car is off. It drained that battery. I tried pulling the radio fuse but it was still making the noise. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. Any ideas?

I GUESS that the speakers are driven by an after market amplifier. An amplifier needs to be connected to a power source that is only on when the radio is on, through a relay.

So I GUESS that:
  1. The wiring is incorrect. Or
  2. If is has a relay, the relay is stuck.

Can an iPad be easily fixed? My son gave it a very hard hit to the backside of unit.. Will hitting it again fix it?

It's not an "Etch-A-Sketch" - look for an Apple Store for assistance; and do not bang it again - the surface mount componets are much smaller than your 1960's transistor radio and can be destroyed by a single drop or static shock.

Static stops when i stop moving

The radio may have been installed incorrectly or the squelch setting is incorrect or the antenna connection is not properly grounded

Ge model 7 4100ja cathedral radio Static on AM,

My guess is that you got into the radio tuning circuit (little box with the screws) and, unless you have a signal generator and some basic electronic knowledge and equipment, you are just guessing and it's a hit or miss situation. I don't mean to sound pessimistic but may be you know someone who could take a look at it and let you know if it's worth fixing. Hope this helps.

Radio speakers shorting out

I suggest Checking the ground wire to the battery. It sounds like it is loosing earth ground to the speakers.or the technician didn't attach wire back to engine block near the compressor.

Distorted sound

I have had this problem also. While I haven't completely fixed it I have figured out the root of the issue. Within this unit there are two circuit boards. Between the two boards is a white connection. It appears this connection becomes loose or is susceptable to the heat that is generated from the unit. I've tried teasing out the pins within the connection to see if they can get a better fit together. This will work for a little while but then the static returns. I'll post back if I come up with a final solution to this problem.

Ge spacemaker radio model 7-5402 problem

OK, I found out what the problem is.
ON my GE 7-5402 Spacemaker under-cabinet radio, the FM was only static. I've opened it up and there is a component which is failing. When I used a heat gun on the circuit for about 5-10 seconds, it started working and it stopped again when it cooled off. After some time I isolated which component it was that needed the heat in order to work. Here's where to find it:
  1. Remove the top (25 screws of various length)
  2. With the LCD facing you, look to the right of the CD-drive close to the large aluminum cooling fin.
  3. There is a single transistor with markings of: "D2012" and "6:R".

This transistor is the problem and I believe if it is replaced, the FM radio should work. I'm going to try it and see what happens. I think I found the right one online for less than $1.
Hope that helps you guys!
