Question about JVC PD-42WX84 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television

JVC HDTV Pictrure Distortion

I recently bought a used JVC 42 inch Rear-projection HDTV. I don't have the model number on it right now (I'm at my office). The problem is when turned on the picture is distorted and 3 outlines of the picture are present and sometimes so poor that the screen cannot be read. Hopefully its not a hard fix... I have regular cable, without a box but I'm not sure if thats the problem because my Xbox doesn't work on it either. The sound seems to be fine but just a poor picture.

Your TV needs to be calibrated. Rear projection TVs are very sensitive to movement. They have 3 color canons that need to be precisely aligned so that the colors overlay each other. They are like three projectors all aimed at the same screen.

If you were to enter the User Menu on the TV, you should find an alignment/calibration choice that will re-align the colors using some on-screen help.

If you are not able to resolve the situation on your own, a certified ISF Calibrationist should be called.

And, since you've bought this TV used, it should be cleaned by a professional (the canons, lenses, etc.)

Blue spot

the model number KP-51WS510 deosnt use a bulb or lamp. and touching the face of the lamp will not cause color problems in the picture. if your tv is an LCD projection then i would suspect the optical engine as the culprit. to check when you turn the tv off do you still see the blue distortion? if so then you have a bad optical engine.......as long as it is an LCD projection.

2006 42'' Samsung rear projection, Balist????

A Ballast is a circuit that provides voltage to Lamp. Ballasts are only used with TV's with a Lamp. According to your model number this unit does not use a lamp. That model number uses 3 rear-projected CRTs. The most common units with a ballast would be a DLP HDTV.

The Model number you specified HCN4226W is a unit made in 2003. However you stated in your subject line that this was a Samsung unit from 2006. Please verify your model number.
