Please also verify that the resolution for the display is not outside the supported range of the monitor. Some monitors will display a message indicating that the signal is out of range, others will just display a "no signal" message. If possible, check the monitor on another PC. If the monitor works as expected, I would check the video card. You don't indicate any information about the PC. Does the PC have built in video or do you have a video card? If there is built in video AND you also have a card, try connecting to the other VGA connector. You may have the other one enabled without realizing it.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Three things can be the issue here:

1. No signal from the tower (VIDEO CARD)
2. Bad cable or bent pin on the d-sub 9-15 pin vga connector.
3. Bad signal board inside the monitor itself.

Things to try:

1. another computer.
2. check the signal cable for bent pins.
3. check the video card in the tower.

Before you "think its a bad monitor" you always want to assume the computer first as computers are 9 times out of 10 why the monitor is not coming on such as BIOS errors, Bad video card, bad power supply etc etc.

Where do I connect the speakers to the monitor. I have a Flatron L1922P monitor. I ordered 2.0 USB Multimedia speakers that come with a 3.5mm stereo plug and USB plug. I must not being doing something...

Your speakers do not plug into your monitor. Your speakers should be connected to a USB slot on your PC tower and the 3.5mm stereo plug should be put into the green stereo jack on your PC tower. If your audio jacks on your PC are not colour coded, then you should look for the jack which has a picture of a set of earphones over them.
Depending on your speakers, you may or may not be required to keep the stereo plug connected in order to get sound. Some models transmit model over the USB connection and others just use the USB connection as a way to supply power to the speakers and need the stereo plug to be connected in order to have sound. I suggest trying both.

When switching monitor and tower on the screen shows great distortion

Make sure that the monitor cable is firmly connected to the tower and monitor. If it is and the screen is still distorted then remove the Graphics card from the tower and re-insert it in. THis should resolve the issue

Please rate if this helped you.

Thanks

My desk top computer monitor will not come on, but the tower will light up, could it be a virus..if so how do i fix it

A couple things to consider ... Are you certain the monitor is plugged in ... is there power in the outlet/power strip ... is the power strip turned on ... can you try another outlet close by ... is the power light on the monitor lit? Are both ends of the video connection connected? Are you using on-board video adapter or a adapter card? Is it properly plugged in. Do you have a second monitor you can temporarily connect to your tower? (like a lap top that you can connect with a VGA cable?) Can you try your monitor with someone elise's computer? If your monitor doesn't work on another known good computer ... it could be your monitor needs replaced.

Thanks for your question

I cannot get any sound from my speakers or the monitor speakers. I have plugged the green cable to the monitor and to the green connector on the tower with no luck. I have also plugged the extra speaker...

It sound like you have connected them correctly however unless they are multi-channel speakers you should only have to connect the green cable. Check to see if the volume control on your speakers/monitor and also OS are turned up and not on mute and also check to see that you have sound drivers installed for your sound device/card.

Hi! For dell machines when u unplug the video cable/VGA from the tower while the system is on it will show monitor self test.If you are seeing a black box moving around the screen it means that monitor is ok.Check connection between monitor and tower.Make sure cables are securely plugged in.Check if the tower is ok. There is a possibility that your monitor is ok but the tower is not.check the power button (whats the color) if amber/orange, this means there is something wrong the the tower. If its blue or white it means its ok.Also check if you are going to hear one beep, it means system is booting up properly. If tower is ok and you are using a expansion video card then try to use internal one, normally its the vga port above the usbs.If you are going to use onboard video card make sure you enable it first in bios.If all things fail, contact your manufacturer, if the system is under warranty then they will send a tech to check the machine.hope this helps...

When turning on the emachine, No Signal shows on the monitor

Please check the cable at the back of the tower connected to the monitor. Make sure its plugged in properly on both ends. If you have another monitor, try connecting that. If still, that does not work, then, check on the video card. If you have a video card, then you should connect your monitor there, and not the internal one. Still doesn't work, try reinstalling the driver for your video card.

My desktop will not turn on. Monitor shows no input. Fan in tower running very high. No lights on the tower.

In this case if you monitor say no input or no signal it means the monitor connector cord are not connected properly to the motherboard. Or if you have a video card you need to plug your monitor connector to the video card. Because if you a video card and the monitor cord are connected to the motherboard the monitor will not be display. So check the monitor connector if it is correctly connected.

Hooking my emachine monitor with compac tower

Jordman85,
Make sure that you are connecting to the video output on your Compaq that is configured (such as a PCI video card versus the integrated Graphics on your MoBo) and when reconnecting monitors, make sure the machine is powered down before connecting or disconnecting.
Since you say that "the only thing that show up is the arrow button", I assume you are referring to your cursor, and if that is correct? You're PC would be attempting to boot to windows and there may be a hardware conflict that may be stalling it. There could also be corruption in the windows installation. But the monitor should be simple "Plug and Play".
More details about your Graphics Card and any recent hardware software changes/occurrences that have taken place would help.
Good luck.
