I believe there is a capasitor (SP?) blown. or maybe two. I snapped a few pictures to show what I mean... I got the amp for free. the guy said it kinda works but it is broken. he is 16 and im pretty sure hes a moron. i have not hooked it up. but the pictures look as if something was blown on the inside. What i wanna know is, can it be fixed? is it hard to fix? can in do it myself? how much would it cost to fix? thanks! http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i246/tiller615/IMG_2106.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i246/tiller615/IMG_2104.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i246/tiller615/IMG_2105.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i246/tiller615/IMG_2108.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i246/tiller615/IMG_2109.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i246/tiller615/IMG_2111.jpg

Those 2 capacitors are definitely blown.
if you look on the side there should be a reference, something like 12v 400uf or pf.
do a google search for that capacity, they shouldn't cost too much (probably less that $1 each but I'm not sure as we buy in bulk).
Just remember though that if you do replace them, make sure they are polarized.. This means they have a Positive (+) and negative (-) and make sure that you position them to the correct polarity on the pcb or they will blow again, so make sure you put the cover back on or you could get a face-full of electrolyte.
Also you have to remember that they may not be the only faulty parts, something must have caused them to blow in the first place, that could be a few things, from overload (high voltage or hight current), extended use at high volume or other faulty components.

Mike

Hello Sir, hi, as I see it, on the first picture with the whole board seen, you need to replace the two medium size capacitors on the rigth side and on the bottom there are two large capacitors which are bulging, you need to replace them too.

Now the question is, why did those capacitors blew up?, A capacitor blows up if there are too much current flowing on it, these over current condition MAY be caused by a those power amplifier ICs, on the sides, those black ones mounted on the heatsink. you need them checked for shorts or overheating.

WHat you need to do. Replace first the four mentioned capacitors, then test the unit. If it works then Good. if not, you need to check those power amps ICs.

Why want the fans come on

Fans are generally controlled by relays because they handle so much current. There also maybe a 30 to 50A fuse blown. If I knew what vehicle it was I could advise you more.

Hope this helps in the mean time.

I have a Technics stereo,stack system,turned it on,and volume was really load!.tried turn down,but switched it off..turned on again,but amp not working,HELP

Hello there..

Well if it is what i suspect, it is either a capasitor or ic which is broken. If you open up the amp, you must be able to see where the speakers plug in from the outside. Now trace back the path of the chajnnel and look if you can see blown or damaged capasitors(Cilyndrical objects). You should be able to see this right away if it is damaged, most of the time. Did you smell something when the amp stopped working?

If you are not confident working on electrics i suggest that you take it in for repairs. If you try to fix it yourself, you can loose your warrenty. Capasitors and ic units are very cheap, so if it is what i thinkl, it will be a quik fix. Really hope this can help you.]

Best regards

Replaced capasitor/relay combo capasitor melted restarted made full bend of ice (dumped 12-15 ) times now three days later freezer is 50 and refrig is 57 compressor is not hot sounds good thinkink defrost...

The melted capacitor and relay is a symptom of a serious problem, high amp draw. Much of the time this is caused by a plugged condenser (dirty). The only thing that can draw enough amps to melt those is the compressor which means, you might have a bad compressor if you kept the condenser coil clean.
The defrost timer has a dial on it. Turn it clockwise and see if the unit begins to work. If the dial won't turn, the timer is bad and should be replaced. If it turns and you hear a :"click" yet the unit doesn't work, your relay and capacitor are probably done for. I'm assuming you got a "3in1" electronic relay capacitor overload. They can't take the amps the original relay can.
