OK, please unplug tv from wall socket for minute or so to get it reset, replug back in and turn it On,
Do you hear fans run when you turn tv On?

So since 2005 bulb has not been changed, it seems bulb is reaching to end of its working life.
Please replace bulb in tv to get it back in business.

Why does my new 58inch Samsung keep coming on in the middle of the night all by itself and how do we fix it?

You may have your sleep timer/wake up functions set by mistake or It could be because your remote batteries are low. Remotes are known to send off some weird signals when they're on the last bit of juice. Your TV could be interpreting infrared noise from your remote as an "On" command. The power button on the remote or the TV itself could be stuck. check your settings on the on screen menu to see if there are any errant settings.
To turn off the Sleep Timer, follow these steps:
  1. Turn on your TV.
  2. Press the MENU button on your remote control. ...
  3. Press ENTER button on your remote to select Time. ...
  4. Use the Up ( ) or Down ( ) arrow button on your remote to select Sleep Timer, and then press the ENTER button.

    Hi,

Most likely you have turned on the sleep function. 2nd button from the left on the top of the remote hand unit. Keep pressing until "sleep off" appears on-screen.

    Or

Timer in user's menu is activated to turn off TV a specific time. Go to timer menu and adjust timer, then push cancel on the remote, this should reset timer to zero. Same with current time, adjust and select cancel, this should reset current time.

If you do not have the original remote, you are in trouble. Service tech will have remote.

SONY HDTV-LCD MODEL - KDF-42WE655 turns itself off. Lamp light indicator flashes red. Should I attempt to reset ? It is approx. 4 years old

I'd wager that somewhere in the menu settings, there is a "Sleep Timer". Check the menu for the sleep timer, which turns off the TV after a set length of time. Also, check your remote, there might be a "Sleep" button that would do the same thing, press it multiple times until it reads "Sleep: Off" or something similar.

On timer light is flashing.and tv shuts off in about 5 seconds after turnig it on.

    Hello
Timer function is in ON position and have been set to the least time I thinks. You just go to the menu and put the timer fuction of OFF.

The On/Off timer lets you program your television to turn itself on or off. You can use it as an alarm

to wake up, to help you remember important programs, or as a decoy when you're not home.

    Press the MENU button

Press UP or DOWN button on the remote control hanset to ON/OFF TIMER

    Make it OFF.

Switch off the TV by its front panel power button, and switch it ON again after 10 seconds.

    OK.

    Good diagnostic

check your timer in your menu. you should only get code flashed when you you press certain buttons on the front.
if you get flashing durring the time the tv is off or on, then you have a timer set in the menu.
