Question about Garden

1 Answer

I have a Simplicity model 1692762 with a 16hp Briggs and Stratton. The mower blew large plume of white smoke three times while cutting grass over a period of 10 minutes. Engine seemed to lose some power during smoke blows, but continued to run without any unusual engine knocks. I shut it down after third plume to check oil. Now it won't start - engine cranks and cranks. Engine doesn't start, occasional *POP* while cranking. Fresh oil change and oil filter, filled according to manual with 1.7L of 30W oil. I suspect a fuel supply issue.

I suspect an internal engine issue such as a valve, the white smoke was oil and it could mean a bent, burned valve or damaged valve seat causing the valve stem seal to leak allowing the engine to **** some oil and burn it (the white smoke) and now you lack compression. It is less likely but possible the oil was overfilled and you "lipped" the piston which causes the compression to drop. check the compression, 100-120 is normal, less than that means bad internal parts.

Hi, check your air filter, also check your oil level is not over full as it may have become diluted with fuel. Let me know. Regards Phil.
