Question about Princeton Digital VL1918 Monitor

1 Answer

My monitor goes to black a couple of minutes after I start my computer. When this happens, I disconnect the VGA plug and my computer's small screen goes on. I've replaced the VGA cable and the same thing happens. Any ideas? . . . Joe Miller

Im not sure about what you understand by computer's small screen ..but I assume that it is a notebook and it has a lcd screen and you use the vga out to use a second larger monitor..
In this case it has to be a issue of settings cause if you use it like this ..both monitors should be on ..all the time ..and to use it like this you have to access the settings for the monitor from the video card driver settings ..and enable monitor 1 and 2 in the same time..
the easiest way is to reinstall the video driver and this way you get rid of any odd settings and start from scratch ..and after that connect the monitor and use the short cut for enabling second monitor ..(FN+F4 or +F5 in some cases) or just right click on desktop settings...and there click advanced...and monitor you can set the both click on each of the 2 monitors shown ..and set the one by one ...
just give it a try and we will see whats on ..and how its behave and see whats to do next ..

see the power and screen saving settings..for that just click right on the desktop ..and than choose properties and screen there choose non for screen saver..and after that choose power schemes on the bottom ..and in there select all settings to be on never turn off. ..I suspect a setting that turns something off in the computer as a power saver..and thats whats causing it ..cause there is no other explaining ..
I wonder if the black out came around when you are actually using it ..or if it stays a while ...if it does after you do not touch it a while ..this may be a hdd power setting or something like that ...just put them all on never stop ..
and remove the screen saver..cause this too may be a issue ..if there is a screen saver that pops in and it is corrupted..

I didnt forgot..but I'm not sure I understood well the issue ..cause you didnt explain it right ..In my first post I asked to detail the problem ..and what kinda devices are involved...(not the model but the type )
I assumed it is a laptop ..with a larger monitor as secondary ...vga out ..and in this case I kinda covered all issues..but a physical damage of the monitor...or a windows issue..
For to check the first assuming ..I say to connect the monitor in another device or computer and see if it is behaving the same ...if with another computer it is running well..and do not stop after powering ..up..than the issue is from windows..or the vga out plug ..and first reinstall the video card on the computer to avoid a corrupted driver issue ..or reinstall the windows in the last resort to eliminate the case of a windows malfunction ..or such ...
you can also check the laptop with another monitor and if it does the same than it is something from windows or video card ..and when this happens all you can do is reinstall them ..first video card ..and than windows..if this will not fix than it is a physical damage on the video card ..and when it heats up it stops the vga out ...

try to reinstall the driver for the video card first ..if the monitor works until the windows is booting up..than the issue is from the video card setting probably have a color choice or something not supported by the monitor..reinstalling will default it ..Probably you will need to enable the second monitor again after that ..
also ..look in the monitor own settings and see to be defaulted as well to the reset factory settings ..In this way we eliminate the possibility of a issue from monitor 's own settings ..

    1) How do I reinstall the driver, I don't have any software. 2) How do I check the Monitor settings?

the monitor have settings for other than the image only if it is a tv with monitor functions ..and it has Hd and other like that ...channels ..and such ..and all you have to do is to go in the menu and reset to factory settings from the general reset..
for the video driver will probably have it on the disk that came with the video card ,,,or in case it is a laptop we are talking about it is on the driver disk that came with the laptop ...
to reinstall it you only have to run it again from the disk ...and will replace the old one ..or ...go to device manager right click on the my computer ..than properties..hardware ..device manager locate the video driver (display driver ) in the list ..right click on it ..and click uninstall..
after that install it from the disk ...
If you do not have a disk ..let me know the exact make and model of the laptop and I will link you to download a suitable driver (I also have to know the operation system you use..

Acer Aspire 5536 only gives black screen when i connect power supply

  • Nothing is more annoying than a monitor that refuses to turn on. Make sure your Acer monitor is plugged in to a functioning outlet. If it's plugged into a power strip, try replacing it with a new one or moving the plug to a different outlet. Ensure that both ends of the power cable are plugged in firmly and securely, and that the connection to the monitor is not loose.
Cable Issues
  • Your Acer LCD monitor will usually accept DVI and VGA inputs. If you have an older computer, a VGA cable should work fine. If it doesn't have a VGA port, you'll need to obtain an inexpensive DVI to VGA adapter at your local computer store. A DVI cable, however, is compatible with most modern computers and offers superior picture quality over VGA. Make sure you're using the cable that's compatible with your system, and that you have the proper conversion adapter, if necessary.

When monitor power button is pressed, a small white image appears and alternates briefly between an alalog and digital icon in black then the screen goes blank, no color.

My issue is similar.. however after trying a couple of times it will work. (yes everything is plugged in) It will function for a good 10 minutes before just powering off (blackout) screen.
If you attempt to turn it on after it blacking out, the blue led for the power button will blink a couple of times and it will remain off.
However if you wait 5-10 minutes and turn it back on, it will repeat itself...

Monitor goes blank after showing XP logo screen (black screen with the xp logo right after boot up screens)

There are different reasons why this might happen. Let's try some. 1.) Does your board have an onboard video card, cause if it does, then XP might be using that as the primary monitor. TRy plugging into the onboard video when you start up! If that works then you need to disable the onboard video.(try disabling it in bios!) if not then 2.)When booting at the select xp or recovery console, press F8. You'll get the menu with safe mode and what not. Go down to Enable VGA Mode then press enter. If that works, go to display settings and lower your resolution then restart. But usually when this happens your monitor says "Out of Range" but u can still try Well if that doesn't work, tell me more! Regards, Armando
