Remove anything that may cause it ...remove the card if it has one ...and put it in a shooting mode...and insert new batteries or well charged ones and try again ...If the batteries are not well charged this may be the issue ..or if they are not strong enough to power it...this will only make it to try to open ..beep a few times and shut down ..If you have rechargeable batteries..and you are not sure if they charge themselves well and it is possible ..just use once some normal alkaline ones that fits...and try to power it with them..and see whats going on ...if they power up the device ..look in the menu and reset all settings from the main menu feature for reset..After that get another battery cause this means they are gone ..

Take the memory card out of your camera and look at it. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

REPLACEMENT LCD SCREEN FOR SAMSUNG ST500

Doesn't this have two screens? Are you looking for the front or rear one?

I can't see any listed on eBay at present (nor anywhere else, for that matter), so you might need a plan B.....

Faulty cameras are often listed on eBay, and as long as the fault isn't a part that you need, they can be a source of very inexpensive parts.

For example, currently on ebay :

If you are a competent DIY'er. then changing a screen isn't a very daunting task.

Just a thought.

Samsung st500 not recognised usb device

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.
