Hi,

I am Sorry to hear regarding the Problem. This is a ' Lens Problem ' which is Quite Common on these Models.

It is not worth to get it Repaired, as the Cost of repair would be quite high as compared to the cost of the new camera.

There are a number of things you can try:

1. Ensure batteries are fully charged

2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand or other dirt etc

3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck

4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 2 minutes and refit

If no luck then we have to try some things that could possibly result in damaging your camera so should only be tried if happy to take that risk...

5. Try thumping the camera into your other hand, by thumping into your hand you are trying to jar the mechanism loose, by using your hand you will hopefully not do it too hard or it will hurt. You may need to do this a dozen or so times in different places to work. I have found the flat of the camera bottom into the flat of your hand best..

6. If the lens is stuck in the out position then remove the batteries and try twisting the lens first one way then the other, do not apply excessive force when doing this or you can break gears, you are trying to reposition not force... Likewise if the lens looks like it is crooked you can try pushing it back into position. This has a higher chance of doing more harm than the thump so please be careful...

7. Dismantle the camera, not for the faint hearted, you need to dismantle the lens assembly into the main body of the camera

If no luck then only other option is a serviceman I'm afraid, be sure to get a quotes as camera repairs can be uneconomical

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Thank you! .....when you said to 'twist the lens', I noticed that one of them was slightly crooked. I pulled the part of lens that was in further, out - then the lens went back into camera. All working now. (think I might be buying my 5yr old daughter a 'kids' digital camera!!).

    Cheers

Hi I have a Nikon coolpix L10. Took 2 photos, turned it off. Wont start up and red light stays on, any ideas

There is a capacitor dump that you can try.

Remove the batteries, wait 5-10 minutes.
With the batteries out, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds or so.
Put the batteries back in and your camera will start over (re-boot). You will know if it worked if you have to reset the date. But if that lens is really stuck you may be out of luck. The cost to repair it will exceed the cost of a new camera.

Lenns error

MIne was doing that, but only with one of my two batteries. Never have problems when I have the other battery in the camera, so think the battery doesn't hold a strong enough charge to operate the lens. So I just use it as a spare while the good battery charges.
Get a new battery and see if the problem goes away.

Lens error on nikon coolpix s210

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Lens error message on nikon coolpix L18 I purchased my Nikon L18 Cool Pix camera last September ('08). Last week when I turned it on, the lens extended fully, then retracted fully as I got a "lens error"...

Hi,
When system control does not get lens initialize signal while extending it, then it try again by folding it and extending and still no required initialize signal then generate error and stop further functions.

Please remove battery and open camera and remove flexible wire of lens mechanism from connector, there would be lock that needs to release to remove flexible wire. Clean wire terminals with alcohol, let it dry and put back flexible wire in connector and lock it. Now put battery and power camera up, hopefully lens will work properly.

Thanks.

Lens stuck/lens error

Hello

there are tiny plastic gears inside and may have chipped or a small piece of sand got in causing the lens to jamb. "very fragile"

one solution is to ask a camera repair shop how much a lens mechanism would be to replace. (if cost is more than 1/2 of what you paid dont bother)

another solution is to have someone sell your camera on an auction site for parts, to make some money towards another camera purchase

Anything you would try to do yourself would void your warranty. I suggest taking the camera back and see if they won't give you a replacement.

Usually, zoom errors occur when the lens is extended and gets bumped or dropped. Liquid and or sand can also cause these problems

Dropped camera and now lens will not move

This worked for my camera, Nikon Coolpix L10!! I'm so happy I didn't go out and buy another camera!!!
Remove the batteries, then remove the memory card. Then install the new batteries, when you turn it on it should come back to life. Error E30 means you don't have a memory card installed, so turn it off, slip in the memory card and turn it on one last time.
