Replace power supply motherboard

Replacing power supply mother board risks fire and shock. For the cost of a new supply, It is far better to replace it. I believe that is a standard power supply. You can buy them from Staples or Best Buy for cheap.. If you're not sure of the correct part, remove the old one (only 4 screws and a few cables) Make note of cable connection locations.. but really, it is pretty hard to put a plug into the wrong socket. Bring the old supply to your supplier of choice and match it with a new one.. Higher wattage is OK, lower is not
Good luck

I have installed a new power supply (upgraded from 160 to 250W). Now the computer comes on, then the fan speeds up and then everything cuts off

1) Computer clean inside? Especially processor fan, and finned Heatsink? [FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions ]

Dust, dirt, hair, food crumbs, lint, etc, on the bottom of the motherboard? You have to remove the motherboard to see.

2) Thermal Paste on top of Processor dried up?
Thermal Pad? Peel off, THOROUGHLY clean, apply fresh new Thermal Paste - Properly

3) Are the Electrolytic Capacitors in good shape, or bad; on the motherboard?

4) All cables plugged in, to include power cables; and if you have an Intel processor, especially this power cable,

5) Remove all Ram Memory module/s ('Stick'), and replace. It's easy to bump one loose, and you can't tell by eye.
You have to remove/reinstall to be sure.

Need more specific info? I need the computer name, and model number, (Back of computer next to Windows product key; or up on side of computer tower) Or the motherboard manufacturer name, and model number. Post back in a Comment.

YES, if your card has 2 power connectors, they should both be connected. Always, Always, Always!
I would rather use 2 separate cables, I am having a hard time imagining what kind of "jumper" your a talking about. That sounds kind of Hinky, so before proceeding I would strongly suggest that you make sure that your power supply meets the power needs (for Watts and Amperage) for your new video card. Check out your video card's specs in your documentation, and look for a sticker on your power supply for its specifications.

Unable to charge computer. I plug it in but it will not light up or charge.

There are two possible reasons for this. The first is a bad power cable, the second is a bad power supply. A cable can usually be replaced on the cheap, but if it is the power supply, it will cost a bit more. Unfortunately, the only way to be sure is to try another power cable, which can be hard to find without buying.

Most computer testing facilities will test your current power supply for free. A replacement is very inexpensive to replace. Bestbuy, MicroCenter, small computer shops and buy replacemnent from, Just make sure you have the correct information for your replacement. The model number on the power supply would be your best bet in most cases. Good luck and have a great day. I buy power supplies as low as $15 dollars Generic

What specifications do I need when identifying a suitable replacement for my power supply? Its in a Gateway 830 GM desktop computer

The load is one thing, like how many watts does it supply. You'll want that or higher in the new one. Just as important though is what is the new power supply compatible with. Some name brand machines made theirs with unique dimensions so that only theirs would fit in the case... If you have a standard size case, then you're probably good to go. Look at the plug for it, there are two bundles of cables in some, and the plug type. If possible, checkout the tech specs on the model on the Gateway website and that should give you the basic info you need for searching on a replacement.

How can i fix the power supply in my computer

If the power supply in your computer is dead or producing faulty voltages, it is best to replace it as it is not recommended you open and work on the power supply. Look for a label on your power supply that gives a model number and wattage outputs. Search online for a similar model and replace the whole thing. Buying a new power supply is probably cheaper than taking your computer in to a store to have it diagnosed. There are probably four screws on the back of your computer that hold the power supply in place. Make sure to power off the computer and disconnect all the power cables going from the power supply to the motherboard and drives first.

No power response, cable and outlet are good

hi there,
have you seen or heard the fan moving,if that so it may be power supply, unsle you have a tester
to measure the output supply from power supply. try to open the cover of your cpu on side corner there are two lock in bolt, loosening this and slide pull backward to open,on figure as sample the location of quick lock bolt.be45915.gif
then inside your cpu,you can see power supply
there is a specification tabulated on side of pwer supply.on figures you can see.on the arrow pointing power supply. 495dadf.jpg on your cpu you can read the specification
of your power supply take note on this.when you buy new power supply just let them know, mostly
the capacity they will ask you e.g. 450 watts.have a nice day, don't forget to rate me.

removing power on figure you can see cable from power supply going to mother board disconnect them from terminals such as hardisk,cd room.floopy, motherboard, and the sccrew on the backside of cpu.

Power supply replacment

You should be able to replace the power supply. It is usually held in place by 4-6 screws. Unplug the cables on the motherboard and drives. Reconnect the new ones and away you go. A generic supply will be fine if it is of the correct physical size. Bring the old one with you when you go to get the new one.
