You should be able to check whether the compressor is doing anything by removing the back panel of the cabinet, locating the compressor which will be a sealed semi-globe with obvious lines coming in and going out as well as a cable for power. Check the copper lines while it is running; you should find one hot and the other much cooler. If there is no greater difference in temperature but the compressor seems to be running, you probably need to have the coolant recharged. This isn't a DIY job since it requires knowledge and materials most don't have.
Check with your local BBB to find a reliable service company.

MY GE PROFILE REFRIGERATOR WILL NOT COOL?

Jello Joey,

Could be several things...

If there are small kids in the house... there are button
sequences that can place a REFRIGERATOR in
"SALES MODE"... as a DEMONSTRATOR the lights
are on... Not any MOTOR running...

Could be a defective door switch... Most modern models
are designed to STOP COOLING while the doors are open
(holding FROST accumulation down (warm/moist air)).

Could be a bad start capacitor on the compressor...
Evaporator & condenser fans might be heard but
COMPRESSOR only hums (occasionally)...

~~ Condenser FAN is a biggie (Perhaps just a
clogged/blocked CONDENSER...

Even a (remote possibility) a refrigerant issue...

WHICH can actually be fixed...

We will need to know how the machine is sounding...
behaving...(etc.).

Please expound... Your MODEL number
does not resolve to ANY USA refrigerator models...
but the PRINCIPLES are all the same...

Those "round" condenser coils need to be cleaned regularly...

I have a GE Profile Arctica (2005 model) side by side. Model # PSS26MGPABB. The freezer is not getting cold enough (to freeze bread for eg), and the ice maker has stopped making ice (the water is not...

This could be a fan motor problem. Check to see if the fans are running and if not take a look at this page http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/refrigerator-fan-motor.html

If the compressor is not running this page will help http://appliance-repair-it.com/GErefrigeratorrepair.html

There could be a defrost problem, look on the back wall of the freezer to see if it is covered with heavy frost. If so your problem is that it is not defrosting. This page will help http://appliance-repair-it.com/GE-refrigerator-repair.html

Freezer n refrigerator is warm at 78 degrees

If the compressor is running it either has broken valves or the refrigerant has leaked out. Without knowing more than the information you've provided I would start with the basics. Does the fridge have power? Can you hear both the condenser and evaporator fans running? Have you checked the coils under the fridge to see if they are clean?

Have GE Profile refrigerator Quit Working

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

GE Profile Stainless Steel Top Freezer Refrigerator

Check the compressor.
Unplug for 15-20 min. plug it back in and listen for the compressor to start. You will have to be behind the ref to listen and make sure you hear the compressor start and not just a fan running. If you hear a clicking noise then the compressor relay is bad.

GE sxs Not Freezing

See if freezer fan is running when the unit is on. If you hear no fan when it's running. You probably need an evaporator fan motor.
Also check for ice or frost build up around fan.
